First Responders Try To Recreate “Dirty Dancing” Scene With “The Lift” Included

With the lip-sync challenge still spreading like wildfire, first responders released another fun video, and it’s heating up the Internet. This time, it’s by the Renton Police and Fire Fighters from Renton, Washington, USA, just outside of Seattle, and these guys decided to inject a story into their routine. They’re showing off their humor and personality. It’s a fun video that continues to raise the bar.

Watch as these officers and firefighters let loose for a moment. They do some seriously important work, and this is their chance to show off their collective sense of humor while off duty.

Their video opens to immediate drama with a call that requests back up to fire hall 11. There are sirens, horns, and the sound of brakes with a voiceover that sets the scene. “Most people know that firefighters and police officers have one of the country’s longest standing rivalries but what most people don’t know…” The video is a play on the famous scene from the hit movie “Dirty Dancing.” Led by a policewoman, she and her crew storm into the fire hall where her dance partner is “in the corner” getting reamed out by his superiors. She says, “Nobody puts Brent in Fire in the corner.”

What ensues is a gender-swapped clip of the scene that puts Brent from Fire face-to-face with the policewoman who came in and saved him from his angry boss. The lights dim down, the disco ball starts to spin, and everyone is watching as the pair grab hands. The music is cued up and the instantly familiar Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes song “(I Had) The Time of My Life” comes on; it takes everyone back to the epic dance party from the movie. The pair mimics the beginning moves straight out of the film, like the backbend and the forward facing dance moves, as their perplexed colleagues look on.

At this point, everyone is warming up to what’s happening around them. The couple is twirling and lip-synching to the song while even the fire chief throws in the proverbial towel and starts to bob with his hands on his hips. Officers are swinging around poles while firefighters are dancing in full gear. It’s beginning to look a lot like a party when they approach the part of the “big lift.”

It’s a pretty risky move, and pulling it off takes grace and strength, but as the chief leans against the emergency button that sounds the alarm, it’s what happens next that is hilarious and really shows off everyone’s collaborative efforts and humor.
