Son Suspended From School And The Internet Praises Single Mom For A Clever Punishment

Though I was mostly a good kid with decent grades who stayed out of trouble, I did manage to get myself suspended from school, once. I won’t go into the full story, but it involved a senior prank and riding a horse through the halls of my high school.

My parents were livid about the entire thing, mostly that I would jeopardize my future for a stupid prank. Instead of spending the suspension at home, they insisted I spend the days in the school’s main office, writing apology letters to the school’s staff and administration, and waiting for a daily meeting with the principal to try and explain why I should be let back into school. After two days of a five-day suspension, I was back in class.

Other parents are coming up with creative ways to deal with their child’s suspension from school. When Demetris Payne from Shreveport, Louisiana found out her son had been suspended from school, she came up with a clever punishment that went viral and received tons of praise on social media.

Instead of allowing her son to take a suspension ‘vacation,’ she offered his services for free yard work on Facebook. Payne wrote, “He will do your lawn service, he will rake your yard, mow if you supply the mower, pick up trash, or wash your car for free. Maximum three hours. If anyone has a rake they would like to donate will be awesome,” she continued.

Her post received an overwhelming response, and she carefully scheduled his time. The community jumped in and helped — a hedger, lawnmower, and weed eater were all donated to her son. He spent his entire three-day suspension doing community service, and he’s better for it. He’ll probably think twice before being suspended, again!
