When it comes to pet accessories and furniture, I’m an absolute sucker. But if I have to be honest, I really do wish that they didn’t end up making my place looking like a children’s daycare. With their colourful and crazy designs, they don’t usually fit in very well with our home decor. So what’s a home owner to do? Well, one very crafty lady has taken it upon herself to show the world that pet furniture can actually look stunningly sophisticated. [googlead] Check out the photos below to see how transforms a tree into a gorgeous cat playground! Heck, you can even just use it as a very cool looking shelving unit!
And here’s how she started… she chopped down a tree, trimmed off the branches, and removed the leaves.
She then figured out which branches she wanted to keep. In this case, she wanted this to resemble a spiral staircase.
Now she makes a base using two circles by using a circle jig.
She attaches the base to the tree with glue and lag screws.
Here’s the tree on the base! And one final trim of the branches…
Here she is making and cutting shelf templates.
Using the templates, she traces the shapes onto maple plywood, and she cuts out the shelves with her jigsaw.
Check out these shelves!
Then she counter sank lag bolts to attach the shelves to the top of the branches.
How about some carpeting for the shelves?
The bottom of each shelf was varnished.
And lastly, she wraps ropes around some of the branches.
Ta-da! A cat tree playground made from an old tree!
Methinks this cat likes her new tree.
Cat tested, cat approved.
Wouldn’t this look great in your living room?
This cat thinks so.
