Twins Due February Were Born 30 Minutes Apart During Separate Decades

When we think of twins, we presume they share the same birthday. Twins Joslyn and Jaxon, who were recently born to Pendleton, Indiana, parents Dawn Gilliam and Jason Tello, are an exception. Not only were they born on different days but also different years and decades!

Initially, Gilliam and Tello expected their little ones to enter the world near due date, February 19, 2020 – give or take a few days or even a couple of weeks. However, it looks like the twins wanted to be out of the womb much sooner.

Gilliam showed up at Ascension St. Vincent Carmel Hospital in Carmel, Indiana, on New Year’s Eve, concerned about her unborn twin babies’ lack of movement. Fortunately, her babies were deemed alive and well by the doctor. Then the next thing you know, Gilliam is giving birth to Baby Joslyn Grace Guilen Tello, who was born at 11:37 p.m. on 12/31/2019 at 4 pounds, 11 ounces. Then at 12:07 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Baby Jaxon DeWayne Mills Tello was born, weighing 4 pounds 7 ounces and earning the title as the first baby born at the hospital in 2020.

“We’ve known for a while that [Joslyn] was going to be born first. She’s been in the position for most of the pregnancy. Of course, [Jaxon] was breech. So, it took a while for him to come,” Gilliam shared with reporters.

Although twins are typically born approximately 10 to 30 minutes apart, the probability of Jaxon and Joslyn being born in different years and decades is rare, especially since their due date was over a month and a half later than New Year’s Day. Even the parents were shocked.

“Still kind of overwhelmed. Earlier, we talked about it would be great to have them born on different dates,” Tello said. “But here we are with this surprise: different dates, different years. That was definitely interesting for us for sure. We’re still kind of speechless.”

As for his partner Gilliam, she shares that she, too, was “very shocked.”

Apart from the viral situation itself, Gilliam and Tello are still surprised at the fact that they were blessed with twins.

“I guess it doesn’t click that, ‘Wow! We had two babies.’ I’m like, ‘Wow! There’s actually two,'” Mom shared.

While both Baby Joslyn and Jaxon are healthy overall, they will be required to stay at the hospital on feeding tubes since they were born prematurely. Gilliam and Tello are looking forward to taking their twin daughter and son home to meet their 5- and 10-year-old sons back at home.
