You're not a jerk, but you don't get to dodge the consequences of your decision either. This is a lose/lose. There is not a way to do this without hurt feelings. It's not wrong to do, but it's just one more way to other your nephew. You could also work on teaching empathy and understanding to your son & husband moving forward
