Waitress Pays Struggling Soldiers’ Tab. But Refuses To Think Anything Of It Until Ellen Dubs Her Hero.

If you’ve ever participated in a thing called ‘pay it forward’, you’ll know that it’s entirely rewarding and actually quite a bit of fun.

It works in such a way that you undergo a random act of kindness for someone which, in turn, prompts them to do something great and equally as unexpected for someone else. And this story is an excellent example of just how wonderful it can be to pay it forward.

A waitress at Ruby Tuesday’s in New Hampshire named Sarah Hoidahl was working her shift one afternoon when two soldier’s walked in for a meal. As they looked at their menu, Sarah overheard the two discussing their finances and the fact that they would need to limit their order as their pay check had just been considerably reduced.

Sarah, a mother of a nine-month-old baby, felt absolutely heartbroken for the two as she admitted that she too knows what it’s like to struggle. For that reason, she decided not to give the two servicewomen their bill but instead a note that read, “Thanks to the government shutdown, the people like you that protect this country aren’t getting paid. However, I still am. Lunch is on me! Thank you for serving, ladies!”

What Sarah didn’t know, was that she would be rewarded for her great act of kindness… on national TV! When Ellen DeGeneres heard about Sarah’s good deed, she invited her onto The Ellen DeGeneres Show in order to pay her the amount of $27.75 that she paid for the two servicewomen.

But as many of you know, Ellen is all about surprises! So not only did she pay Sarah back, but also gifted her with a brand new TV as well as a considerably generous check!

If this isn’t reason enough to start paying it forward, then I don’t know what is!
