A New Walmart Scam Has Been Going Around… And It’s Scary.

You know what they say: if it’s too good to be true, then that’s probably the case. Unfortunately, scammers are still largely successful at conning people out of their money using increasingly sophisticated methods. So how do we fight back? The best way is for good citizens to raise awareness about the various scams that can make any of us a victim. Recently, scammers have been pretending to be Walmart as a means to gain your trust. [googlead]This is definitely something that you’ll want to know about and please do share this so make sure none of your family and friends fall victim to this scam.

So how does the scam work? You receive a letter in the mail (see image below) that includes a cheque. The letter explains that you’ve been selected to participate in a “Quality Control program” at Walmart, and it provides details about your supposed duties…

Just like that, they gave you a cheque!? Not so fast… to activate the cheque, you need to enter a user ID and password that they’ve provided. Once that’s complete, you are to deposit the cheque into you bank account. Too good to be true? You bet. Once you’ve deposited the cheque, the scammer is able to pull money out of your account. As you might have imagined, Walmart has absolutely nothing to do with any of this. So if you get this letter, make sure you throw it out!
