156 beagles with ages that range from 2 to 5 years old were just set free from their laboratory cages.

These dogs were once used in laboratories throughout India, and they are getting a taste of freedom for the first time today.

This rescue mission is held by Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (CUPA) which is “determined to place every single dog into loving, deserving homes.”

Much-Needed Baths

When 42 of the 156 rescued beagles arrived at CUPA’s shelter, the volunteers immediately gave them a good bath they hadn’t had for a long time.

The volunteers at CUPA said that the dogs didn’t seem too excited with their first bathing experience but they looked happy and fresh once they got out of the bath.

A New Rule

The rescuing of the beagles is part of a new agreement between the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) and the majority of the laboratories in India, which states that dogs cannot be used in lab testing for more than three years.

Baby Steps

Since the beagles have never been exposed to the outside world, they need to learn the basics of living in a home like using the stairs, toilet training, socializing with people, and going on walks.

CUPA has begun setting up the dogs for adoption, and some have already found their new families.
