George Skrzynecky and Lucian Poznanski were already 69 years old when they first met each other after being separated at birth.

Their Mom’s Story

George and Lucian were born in 1946. Their mother, Elizabeth, was Polish, Catholic, and was just freed from a labor camp at the end of World War II.

The Twins Got Separated

Elizabeth became ill after giving birth to her twins. She knew she would not be able to take care of them so she decided to give them up for adoption.

They Grew Up In Different Homes

George and Lucian were sent to Poland and got adopted into different homes. Eventually, as they grew up, they both found out about each other in different ways.

How They Found Out

Lucian learned that he was adopted only when he was drafted into the army, while George came across his adoption papers when he was 17 years old. He found out he had a twin brother that day but Lucian only learned about him when he was in his 60s.

They Searched For Each Other

George asked the Red Cross to help him find his twin but they were not able to track him down. Eventually, when Lucian learned about George too, he asked for help from the Red Cross as well, and that’s when the two of them got connected to each other.

The Reunion

George flew from his home in California to the Warsaw airport in Poland where his twin brother was waiting for him.

Making Memories

The twins held each other with tears in their eyes. They kissed each other’s cheek and expressed how thrilled they both were to finally meet each other. They promised to make up for the lost years and make new memories together as “brothers forever”.
