72-Year-Old Graduates From College As His 99-Year-Old Mom Watches

Meet Sam

Sam Kaplan is a proud degree holder at the age of 72.

He Finished College

He received his diploma in Cinema and Media Arts from Georgia Gwinnett College just recently.

His Number 1 Fan

What made his momentous day even more special was he was able to celebrate his graduation with his proud 99-year-old mom.

Not An Easy Journey

Sam admitted that it wasn’t an easy journey for him. After graduating from high school in 1969, he had to take on different jobs to make ends meet.

He’s Versatile

Over the years, he operated a cleaning service, became a manager at a telemarketing company, handled customer service for an electronic wholesale distribution business, and operated as a taxi driver.

His Turning Point

His journey as a college student started when he was driving one day and heard on the radio that a college was offering a degree in scriptwriting.

It All Happened Too Fast

Later on, he found himself driving to Georgia Gwinnett College and already signing up for the fall semester.

His Hard Work

Of course, Sam had a hard time adjusting at first because of his age, but he figured out a way to connect with his classmates and professors. He set a daily goal of starting conversations by asking people at school about their educational goals and aspirations in life.

He’s Now A Degree-Holder

After years of hard work and perseverance, Sam is now a degree holder and an inspiration to a lot of people.
