Georgia Was Once a Homeless Dog
The Australian Shepherd Mix was eventually rescued by the Sunshine Dog Rescue in Phoenix, Arizona.
Not Long Later, the Canine Became Pregnant
Unfortunately, all of her pups were born prematurely and, eventually, passed away.
Her Loss Was Tragic
“I’ve never had a mom dog lose a whole litter before. The best way I could describe it was she was frantic. It was so sad, she was looking for those babies. She tore up the toddler mattress we had her on, trying to find her babies,” Sunshine Dog Rescue founder, Anita Osa, said.
Osa Had an Idea to Help Georgia
She decided to make some phone calls to see if there were any baby animals out there in need of a lactating mother.
She Came Across a Trio of Orphaned Kittens
Osa decided to see if the three infant kitties would accept Georgia as their new momma.
It was Like Love at First Sight
“I introduced [the kittens] to her gently. I first bought one out and let her sniff it, and she seemed to accept it, so I brought the others out. It’s amazing to see how she instantly calmed down,” Osa said.
Georgia Took the Kittens Right in
Even with low milk production, the dog was open to breastfeeding the sweet kittens.
And the Kittens Immediately Accepted Her as Their Mother
Osa believes the kittens don’t know that Georgia isn’t the same species as them. Either way, they see the dog as their mother figure.
The Bond is Strong
“They do nurse on her. She cleans them and everything but the bond is strong. It’s really something to see, she protects those kittens just as if they were her babies,” Osa said.
Motherhood has no limits!
