Lots of cats and dogs are being taken into shelters every day. Most of these animals were abandoned or turned in by their owners who couldn’t take care of them anymore.

Although there are shelters that refuse to put down old rescued animals, there are still those that euthanize cats and dogs after a few days so it’s important that these animals get adopted immediately.

Meet Waffle

Waffle Sizzli is a stray pit bull who was picked up and sheltered by Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) in November 2022.

She was still at the shelter, unadopted, by January 2023, and this marked her being the shelter’s longest resident.

Her Favorite Toys

Surely it was lonely for Waffle to wait for someone who will adopt and love her forever, but what made her stay at the shelter quite bearable were her plush toys, also called stuffies.

Love At First Sight

Waffle first discovered the plush toys when she was brought into the office of RACC director Christie Peters where she found some plush toys waiting for her. Christie said, “She loved them. She walked down the hallway to the other office and took stuffies from there. She brought them back to my room so she could have more.”

Her Favorite Ones

She loved her red bone plush toy, and second to that was a frog, but his legs would dangle, causing her to trip and stumble. Though, it is the bird plushie that she loves carrying around everywhere.

A New Parent

Finally, a woman came to the shelter to adopt Waffle after her three months there. She said that she saw a video of Waffle with her stuffies on RACC’s videos and immediately fell in love with her.

A Parting Gift

When she left, the staff at RACC sent her off with special gifts. Christie said, “We sent her home with everything she loved. Now, I get pictures of her with her stuffies in her new house.”
