Quick-Thinking 9th-Grader Steers Moving School Bus Away From Gas Station

This young girl set a strong example of selflessness and fast thinking.

Meet Izzy

Izzy Miller is a 14-year-old 9th-grade student from Casino High School who just saved the lives of A LOT of people.

All Aboard!

Unaware of the upcoming incident, students were laughing and joking as they boarded the bus for the day.

Left Unattended

The bus driver left the vehicle alone after briefly getting out to talk to a teacher.

It Rolled Out

Suddenly, the bus, carrying about 20 students, started rolling, and the idle banter turned into a mounting sense of worry.

Approaching Vehicle

The car started uncontrollably rolling toward a local gas station. There was a lot of potential for calamity, and it appeared as though something terrible might happen eventually.

She Stepped In

Izzy realized that she had to stop the oncoming situation. Her only goal as she hurried to take control of the steering wheel was to put the bus to a stop. Izzy steadily stepped on the brakes, bringing the bus to a prompt and safe halt.

Young Hero

Izzy said, “It was heading near the petrol tank and no one was doing anything so I jumped up, got into action, and steered it away. If I didn’t do anything about it, something really bad could have happened to the kids.”

She Saved Everyone

Thinking back on the situation, store owner Erin Witton stressed how serious things could have been, especially since there was someone pumping gas at the time. Thanks to Izzy’s quick thinking and bravery, everyone was safe and sound.
