If you’re a commuter, then you know how much of a hassle it is to chase after buses and trains just to get to and from your destination, but think of how much more difficult it is for disabled people to utilize public transportation.

The mother and son needed to ride the train to get back home but they found out that the elevator was broken at the time and completely out of service.

Monica started worrying that they might get stuck at the station for quite some time, but a kind police officer named Officer Mears offered them help and personally escorted them toward the nearest elevator.

The officer’s kindness did not end on the elevator, as he even helped Chris use the disability ramp to get onboard the train.

Monica was moved by the police officer’s kindness. She said, “Then he escorted us to the LIRR, found out before all commuters what track we were on, brought us down, and set up the ramp for Christopher to get on the train before the rush of all the passengers.”

After a quick chitchat with Officer Mears, Monica learned that he spent 6 years working with disabled people before he became a police officer, and that’s how he got a soft spot in his heart for people like Chris.
