People Share The Most Inexplicably Creepy Thing That Happened To Them

Pixabay
We live in a world that is largely understood. With modern science and technology, there are few mysteries left in our lives. Or so many of us tend to think, anyway. However, the truth is that there is still a lot in this vast universe and mysterious world of ours that we do not understand. Ask anyone who has ever had any sort of supernatural experience, and they can tell you that there is more to existence than what we currently can explain. Most such experiences definitely have an explanation, but those are either outside of most people's (or everyone's) understanding or are so convoluted in explanation that no-one can understand how they came to happen. The stories below are shared by people who have had an experience, supernatural in origin or not, which they cannot understand, explain, or even wrap their head around. These strange, sometimes frightening, experiences definitely happened, but who can say why or how? And how can we prove or disprove that these real events weren't just a fragment of one's imagination or an utter coincidence that a person simply perceived to be real at the time it occurred? Maybe an expert in a particular field could offer a possible explanation for one or another of these stories, but by and large, they will remain inexplicable for now and possibly forever. How many of the people reading this have had their own uniquely creepy and mysterious experiences? Hopefully, most of us have or will have a story or two to tell, but ones from which they emerged safe, only with broadened horizons and a healthy questioning of our universe.

79. Alien-Spotting Dogs?

Pixabay

“I live in the deep mountains. I’m talking a 45-minute drive to the nearest small town. We are nearly completely isolated and surrounded on all sides by thousands of acres of national forest. It is not uncommon for large predators to roam through our property: grizzlies, lions, wolves, etc. To help combat this, my wife and I have several large shepherd dogs that roam the property. If something goes bump in the night, either the dogs freak out, or they don’t.

After a while, you learn to interpret their barking and growling, from batsh*t panic when a bear is outside, to yapping when a raccoon gets in the trash.

One December evening my wife and I were watching Planet Earth. My shepherds love to watch the television and see all the cool animals. We had watched several episodes and they never made a peep when they saw sharks, elephants, komodos, hyenas, blah, blah. Then came the mountain episode, and they cut to a night vision scene of a mountain lion stalking in the dark.

The dogs all lost it. Nearly knocked over the TV trying to attack it. It was unnerving to say the least. We get lions around here, but to see how keen the dogs were on just a clip of one really demonstrated not only the fact that they were intimately familiar with the threat, but that they instinctively knew what one looked like prowling in the night. It was an inherent threat and they were scared to death of it.

We had watched hundreds of hours of shows with them and never once got that reaction before.

Here’s the sh*t-your-pants scary part of the story. I really don’t even like writing it, because the whole thing still freaks us out to this day.

We are again all inside on a cold winter night. My wife and I plop down to watch some TV, and the dogs gather around intently. I decide to throw on a stupid alien documentary my friend recommended.

The dogs watch closely but seem normal. Then the documentary shows some supposed pics of greylings lurking in the night. THE DOGS F*CKING LOSE IT. Worse than the mountain lions. Holy sh*t, we have to turn the TV off to stop the dogs from destroying the house and even then they are all super freaked out, tucked tails, whimpering, the works. Again, we watch TV with them all the f*cking time and nothing has ever got them riled up, let alone in a full panic, except for these two instances…

After we calm the dogs down, my wife and I sit in silence for a long while as the horror slowly washes over us. That ‘what if’ when you hear the dogs freaking out in the middle of the night apparently could be aliens. Not. F*cking. Cool.”

78. Late Husband's Doppelganger

Creepy and comforting at the same time.

“I was at a dueling piano bar with my girl for a night of laughing. This girl my age and who I figured was her mom kept looking at me. The night went on and they eventually came up to me and apologized for the staring and had decided to explain to me why. The old lady told me her daughter had taken her out to this piano bar tonight to celebrate her now-deceased husband’s birthday and that I was actually a perfect match and looked exactly like her husband and was the same age as when they met decades ago.

They asked me my name and age, and when I told them, they both started crying as I had the same name as the husband and was the same age as when they met. They kept saying they wish they had a picture with them to show me the resemblance.

The old lady and daughter asked me to please take a pic with them so they could document this and to have the pic to show the rest of the family this as nobody would believe this happened.

They were pretty emotional about this happening and the old lady almost pulled some tears out of me when she asked me to hug her because it was like she was going back in time and was given the chance to hug her husband once again.

The daughter, to her this was like seeing her father in his prime, and they were both blown away. I couldn’t say no to the pic and hug, etc. The whole thing was very strange and really got me thinking about life, etc. I’m a tad emotional right now thinking about this again.”

77. The Psychiatric Ward Didn't Have Phones...

Pixabay

“I used to work as a night operator at a hospital switchboard. Almost every night, I would get calls from a patient in a room in the involuntary psychiatric ward where patients aren’t supposed to have phones. It was an elderly lady who asked every single time to be connected to a flower shop in town. If I transferred her call, that would be the end of it for a few days. If I didn’t and said we weren’t allowed to transfer the call, she would always call back 1-2 hours later asking to be connected to the flower shop.

Either way, the calls kept happening.

Eventually, I rang the manager at the psychiatric ward, explained what was happening, and asked him to please make sure the phone was disconnected in the room. He said without any joking around that the ward was haunted, there were no phones in the rooms, and that room had no patients in it.

So the next time she called, I googled the flower shop. It had been closed for YEARS. I explained this to the old woman, she politely thanked me, then hung up. And she called back an hour later, asking to be connected to the closed flower shop. It was always the same script.

I accepted part of the job to be connecting the netherworld to the flowerworld and went on with my life.”

76. Figure In The Mirror

Pixabay

“One time, I was playing fetch with my dog in the upstairs hallway. I would throw the toy over the balcony to the downstairs, and she’d go run to retrieve it and then run back. We were having fun and all was good, but then on the final throw, I “hid” by the balcony and the door to my sister’s room.

My dog came back and found me, dropped the toy, and immediately started growling. I moved closer to see what was wrong, but she didn’t respond, her eyes were fixed behind me.

I looked back, and there was nothing there, just the white door and white walls. Then I looked into my dog’s eyes and I could see myself and the hallway reflected back, and behind me in the reflection was the dark figure of a person, it looked like a woman. We were completely alone up there, my sister and brother were chatting in the kitchen. I nope’d the f*ck out of there and spent the next few hours downstairs.”

75. Everything Went Slow-Mo To Save A Boy's Life

Pixabay

“A long time ago, I was with my cousin going to shop something to drink for lunch and I was jumping like a silly kid and talking how we are going to play ps2 when we finish our meals. When I turned back and look him, I notice this little kid that was running across the street, but he was about to be hit by a bus. (This happened in a period of seconds.) I thought that the kid would die, and I tried to scream something, but when the bus almost hit the kid…the time just stopped or maybe it turned very, very slow.

In the end, the bus didn’t touch the kid, but this little guy was running like nothing happened. Remember, I was jumping? Yes, I was in the f*cking air, and my cousin saw me (he couldn’t move either), and when the boy crossed the street and disappeared, everything was normal again. It was f*cked. He and my cousin talked about it and we were shocked. This was years ago.”

74. Her Missing Phone Randomly Showed Up

Pixabay

“It was over an iPhone, of all things.

February this year, we bought our daughter a new phone as a reward for being so responsible. It’s a coral iPhone XR, just as she wanted, and she was so proud of that thing. She always takes care of her things and is quite responsible. She would take it to school and follow the rules with it. Every day at pick up, she’d get in the car and pull her phone out for the car ride home.

Well, the last day of school in March, she got in the car and went to get the phone out but it wasn’t there.

She’s a creature of habit and kept it in the same place so it was quite strange for it to just not be there. We dump her backpack out when we get home, turn it inside out, search the car and it’s nowhere to be found. We basically turn the house upside down and look everywhere, in every nook and cranny.

We call the school, nothing. We use Find my iPhone, but it says it’s unable to be found with no recent update.

Honestly, at that point, we figure it felt out at school and it’s been stolen. We lecture her about responsibility because that’s the reason she got the phone in the first place. No more phone=sad kid. Oh well, shouldn’t have lost it.

Fast forward to June. It’s my youngest daughter’s birthday and we’re all outside swimming and celebrating COVID style.

My husband comes to get me and says, “I need you to come look at this!” He pulls me in the house to our bedroom and laying out in plain sight is my oldest daughter’s backpack on the floor with that stupid phone laying on top of it.

It was honestly like it was laid out there for us to find it like that. Our daughter was thrilled to have her phone again and utterly confused how it got there.

None of us have any idea what happened or where that phone was for 3 months.”

73. Serious Deja Vu 20 Years Later

Pixabay

“When I was around 7 or 8, I was home alone watching cartoons. I heard some noise coming from the kitchen and went to inspect. I found a man in there, dressed in blue jeans and a black hoodie. He was just staring at the countertop. He must have heard me cause he turned around quickly, bashing his elbow on the counter. I heard him grunt, and then he disappeared like a light being unplugged. I ran out the front door to my neighbor’s place, hysterical.

20 years later, I was housesitting for my parents. I heard a loud bang come from the kitchen. When I went in to investigate, I found that the unusually hot weather had caused the fake stone countertop to crack. I heard some rustling behind me and turned around. Turned so quickly, that I smashed my elbow into the counter, wincing in pain. When I un-squinted my eyes I opened them to see my younger self, staring with eyes wide and trembling. I watched him bolt from the kitchen, but he disappeared halfway to the front door. I then noticed my reflection in a window, blue jeans, and a black hoodie.”

72. Deceased Brother Shared Accurate Information In A Dream

Pixabay

“When I was 7, I had this strange dream.

I was at my house toying around when a boy came inside and started to look at me. He knew my name, he knew my parents, and my brothers’ names. He knew literally everything about us, also a couple of things that I didn’t know at the time, like that a couple of years before my birth, my parents were living elsewhere and that our dog was buried in our garden (Olaf, the dog, actually died a couple of months before my birth).

He just stayed there and told me those things while I was staring at him, terrified but calm at the same time. It was quite familiar, despite being a stranger to me.

We talked a little bit, I asked him who he is and why he was there, but he never answered. He said nothing for a while, looked around, and smiled at me. He looked so kind in that exact moment, so peaceful and so… I don’t know how to describe it.

He was calm, friendly when he said “bye,” and left. I woke up and never mentioned it to anyone.

I was around 16 when I first discovered that my mom lost her first son a couple of weeks before the end of the pregnancy. Had to go to the hospital to basically give birth to a dead newborn. She felt in a deep state of depression, and it was a very rough time for her. I discovered that everything that boy said that night was true, that our dog was in our garden, and that my parents moved from their previous house when my brother was about two years old. I sometimes wonder about him.”

71. Magic Turn Signal

Pixabay

“Used to drive on back roads to get to work. There was one part in particular where there was a middle lane to turn left. Usually, I never encountered people on this road at all, but one day I started seeing one other car in front of me every morning. It was never the same car, but it’d always just be one single car and no one else in sight.

The weird part was that whenever I’d get to the part with the left turning lane in the middle, whichever car was in front of me would never get into the lane until I turned my turn signal on.

They’d never use their own signal, they’d literally just change lanes as soon as I used my signal. After noticing this for several days, I thought it just has to be a coincidence, so I decided to test it. The next day, I did it way earlier than I normally would, the same thing. The day after I did it a little later than I normally would, the same thing. The third day, I decided to do one final test: I waited until the very last second to use my signal and take the turn, bypassing the turning lane altogether.

The front of the car in front of me was literally past the turn, but as soon as I hit my signal, they slammed on their brakes in the middle of the road and took the turn, having to almost do a u-turn to make it.

I didn’t do anything further after that, just merely decided it was “one of those things”. Eventually, I only started having someone in front of me about half the time in the morning. But every single time at that spot until I literally got a new job and stopped driving that way, if there was someone in front of me on the way, I could guarantee they’d move into the lane the moment I use my signal.”

70. Pregcognitive Dreams

Pixabay

Dreams are weird things.

“I have dreams that actually happen. In one dream, I was walking down the street and bumped into a celebrity I have liked since the 90s. He spoke to me for around 30 minutes then we went our separate ways. I woke up the next morning and went to town to do some shopping, walked right into him for real, we spoke for a while, then went our separate ways.

A few weeks later, I had another dream about him.

It was very short and the only thing I remember about it was we were at a swimming pool, I was sat on a chair on the side, and he was in the pool getting ready to get out to dry himself off. I woke up. A week later, I was on my way to a party I had been invited to, I walked outside to meet my friend to let her know I had arrived, just in time to see the celebrity getting out of the pool to dry himself off.

Turned out, he knew a friend of a friend who invited him to the party.

The dreams about him stopped after that, but I did randomly bump into him a few more times over the course of a few months.

Had a very vivid dream where I was at my uncles funeral, the entire family was there, we were all upset, all crying; it was so real that I actually woke myself up crying. Later that day, my uncle had a heart attack.

When I was a kid, I had a dream where my mom was pregnant and she lost the baby. She went to the hospital the next day and lost the twins she was carrying. I had no clue she was pregnant.

Lighthearted one.. Had a dream where I was in my bed and was being attacked.. by.. something. Had no idea what it was but I know I was under attack, lol. Was so scared in the dream that I woke myself up just in time to see four wasps fly out from under the covers.

They had been stinging me when I was asleep. No explanation for how they got there other than I live in the countryside and had washed the sheets that day and hung them outside to dry. They must have been caught up in the sheets.

One of the strangest ones so far was one about my ex. We were still together at the time of the dream. He was having a night out with a few colleagues and I was at home in bed trying to sleep because I didn’t feel well.

I had a horrible, vivid, graphic dream where he took a woman he worked with home that night. They had s*x. They finished having s*x, and I saw the guilt rush over his face. I woke up feeling like crap. The phone rang, it was him, ringing to say he had something to tell me, and he told me he got very drunk that night and ended up going home with a colleague, they had s*x, he felt so guilty he had to tell me. That was the end of a 20 year relationship so sticks with me the most.

Many more dreams that seem to come true, to the point I don’t really like sleeping much anymore.”

69. Stranger's Face In The Mirror

Pixabay

“I have a good one.

I was about 12 years old and woke up in the middle of the night needing to take a leak.

I walked across the hall to the little bathroom, hit the lights, and was about to reach for the toilet when I glanced up and saw a face in the mirror.

It was not my face.

It was as if someone was on the other side, standing to the right, with their face right next to the glass, staring at me.

I only saw it for the briefest moment, but it is seared into my brain.

I screamed and ran out of there to find my dad. Of course, my dad investigated, then calmed me down, or tried to. Eventually, we had a prayer session because I was so freaked out. Eventually, I must have gone back to sleep…

Fast forward to my 30s. I’d forgotten all about the event. One night while visiting, my dad quietly brings it up.

“Remember that one time you saw a face in the mirror…” It suddenly came back to me in a rush of memory, sending a chill down my spine. “Yea, I remember.”

“Well…” he said, “I sometimes think about that night.” He looked down at the floor, with a serious expression. “I saw it too.”

He went on to describe exactly what I’d seen. We have no idea what that was. Apparently, when he investigated, he saw it and had a freak out of his own. So, the prayer session was as much for his own nerves as mine.

I respect him for keeping that tidbit from me till my thirties, but I kinda wish he’d never told me.”

68. Her Deceased Husband Told Her Something Important In Her Dream

Pixabay

This story gave me instant chills.

“My grandma had a neighbor/friend who unfortunately lost her husband when she was young, about 40 or so years ago. This woman was so upset because for a couple of years after his death, she couldn’t dream of her husband. For some reason, it really bothered her that she couldn’t experience a dream with him in it. It’s almost like she wanted it for the comfort.

Some time passes, and this woman is preparing to sell her house and move closer to her kids (they lived a state over).

Suddenly, she gets her wish. She starts dreaming, and her husband is in them. In every one, her husband wakes her up, sits down on the bed, and starts speaking to her. However, his speech horrifies her. It was described to me as ‘backwards’ or ‘garbled.’ I imagine it to be something similar to the way Twin Peaks characters speak in the Black Lodge. So yeah, pretty Godd*mn creepy. She can’t make a single word out.

A few days before she’s about to move out for good, she goes to bed and dreams of him again. The dream is the same, except she understands ONE word he says. He grabs her in the dream and repeatedly says ‘rafters’ — almost seeming panicked. She wakes up rattled but returns to sleep.

The next day, as she’s finishing up packing in the basement, she looks up and sees the rafters. She remembers the dream and is compelled to reach into them. She does and pulls out thousands of dollars worth of WW2 bonds her husband had purchased without her knowledge. She swears he never told her about them. So he appeared in her dream to tell her so she wouldn’t leave all those bonds behind when she sold the house.

The story still gives me chills today.”

67. They Shouted The Numbers 1 Through 4... Then A 4 Of Hearts Card Appeared

Pixabay

“In one of my closets, there is a hatch in the ceiling that leads to (I presume) some sort of insulation space or something. One day while cleaning, I decided to shout up at that hatch to see if anybody was up there, mostly as a joke. I said things like ‘I know you’re up there!’ and ‘Don’t make me come up there and get you!’ and ‘I’m going to count to five! One! Two! Three! Four…’ But I got bored and stopped there, going back to dusting.

I stepped back into the hallway I’d just come from and there was a playing card face down on the floor. I picked it up and turned it over: it was a four of hearts.

I am still baffled as to how it got there. There’s no furniture in that hallway that it could have fallen from. And there’s no way I could have missed it; it was bright red and the floor was more of a grayish-blue. It stood out. I even recognized the deck it was from. It was a deck of cards I hadn’t touched in months, maybe years, which was sealed inside a magnetic case and also underneath another box, inside that very closet where I had been shouting at the ceiling.”

66. The Bad Spot In The Closet

Pixabay

“Growing up, there was an extra room upstairs in our house we used as an office. It had a closet with one of those tiny attic access doors on the side.

We’d sometimes all be downstairs watching TV and we’d hear a creaking sound moving toward that room. The room was next to mine and sometimes I’d find the closet door open with the light on and the little door to the attic cracked open.

There was a spot on the wall that our (declawed) cat would always attack.

There was missing paint from the cat attacks.

All of that was creepy, but the night the dog (who never came upstairs without my dad) started barking in the hallway by my room toward the office was the worst. She barked and growled for a bit, then she started backing off (into my room) while looking up as if staring at the face of a person coming toward her. She backed into my room, then squealed like she’d been stepped on and ran into the far corner from my door and put her nose and eyes into the corner and whimpered. I picked her up and went downstairs to sleep on the couch.

That was 14 years ago, and I’m still freaked out by it.”

65. Then Who Called...?

Pixabay

“Three friends and I went to a concert at the biggest venue in Mexico City. One of my friends is a woman (this is important for the story). So, the concert ended and we agreed on a meetup point outside the venue so we could get a cab and leave together.

There were about 100,000 people there, so we inevitably got separated before going to the meetup point. We waited for my friend for about 15 minutes, then we started to get worried, so we called her phone.

However, due to the sheer amount of people present at the venue trying to make phone calls, the lines were congested and the calls wouldn’t go through.

After another 10 minutes of trying to reach her, I get an incoming phone call from her. She sounded extremely gloomy and sad. She said, “Hey [my name], I’m alright. I’m already at my place; everything is ok.” I immediately got freaked out because this was impossible (she lived two hours away and not even an hour had gone by).

We were super freaked out and tried to flag some cops down, ’cause it being Mexico City, I thought she had been kidnapped.

Then, 30 seconds after the call, she comes out of the crowd looking chill. I yell at her, asking what the hell was wrong with her, etc. She looked so surprised at this. She denied having made any phone calls (she tried but couldn’t get a signal). We didn’t believe her, so we look at her phone and there was no record of the call having been made.

I took my phone to show her the call and there was no record of the call having being received either.

To this day I have no idea what happened because the voice on the other end of the phone was hers, and she knew details about me and my name.”

“Our brain is constantly taking shortcuts to guess what’s happening now and what’s going to happen shortly because it can’t process all the information it receives through our senses. It builds an inaccurate model of the world because 99% of the time, that’s good enough to get us through the day without dying. The other 1% of the time, however…” Matti_Matti_Matti

64. Her Dream Foreshadowed What Would Have Been A Tragedy

Pixabay

“I had this crazy vivid dream in seventh-grade. I dreamt that there was a white van parked outside my house. A man got out, walked to my house, broke in, then went to my brother’s room, and killed him.

I woke up freaked out. It was 3 a.m. I couldn’t sleep, so I went into the kitchen and turned the light on — a few seconds later the headlights on a white cargo van outside flipped on and it sped away.”

63. The Disappearing Little Boy

Pixabay

“In August, I was sitting in my office. Out the window, I saw what appeared to be the head of a young boy with blonde hair run past on the lawn. I went to open the window to investigate, and he was gone.

My wife has also seen a small boy in our house, peeking out from behind the door, and she recorded a video of something knocking on the other side of the door when no one but herself was home.

We had a medium come over, and apparently we ‘have a 5-year-old named James who loves to run down the lawn toward the apple trees down the back.’ We don’t have apple trees, but our section has been subdivided and there used to be an orchard down there.”

62. Meeting Someone Who Doesn't Exist

Pixabay

Probably going to get buried, but I met someone who no longer seems to exist.

In October 2018, I developed tendinitis in my hand, so I went to see a hand specialist at my regular hospital. I remember the hand specialist really clearly. She was a really happy, talkative Vietnamese woman with straight, dark brown hair, and glasses. She had a German-sounding last name, which I assumed was her married name. She was really really nice and we had a long conversation about a medical conference that she goes to.

She explained that my hand issues (caused by phone usage) were the “hot topic” of the conference and that she’d probably use my injury as an example when she goes there.

Anyway, she gave me care instructions and sent me home. I was told to return if it didn’t resolve in a few weeks because then I’d need to be reexamined and sent to physical therapy.

It didn’t resolve and I went back. I had an appointment with the same doctor, but the woman who came into the room was completely different.

She was a white woman with light brown hair, no glasses, completely different face shape, really dull and unwelcoming disposition. I was so f*cking confused. I asked her her name, and she gave the same name the Asian doctor had. I asked if there was another doctor by that name and she told me no; it was only her. I described the doctor I had seen, and she got annoyed and said she didn’t know who I was talking about.

I later went online to the hospital’s staff directory and tried to find the Asian doctor — I couldn’t. I have no idea what happened to her. I even checked my medical records to see if maybe I remembered her name incorrectly, but I didn’t. Both of my visits have the same doctor’s name on them. I’ve always been confused about this and it really bothers me that I met someone who doesn’t seem to exist anymore.”

Too bad the Original poster didn’t remember the name of the medical conference. They could have looked up records to see who the speakers were.

61. But We Already Watched This...

Pixabay

“A minor one but why not.

My wife and I are space nerds, so we follow pretty much all news regarding space travel. Of course, we’re all hyped AF (if skeptical) about the whole Starship thing. And the glitch is exactly about that thing.

About 3 years ago, SpaceX YT channel posted this vid, showcasing the first iteration of their Mars craft. I watched it on like day 2, with my wife sitting behind me, eyes wide and in absolute awe.

We finished watching, I turn back – and see that incredulous look on her face.

“But we already watched this… Some three weeks ago.”

I look at the posting date – nope, nada, it was definitely 2 days ago. I do a quick search in YT and Chrome history, going all the way to the beginning of the year – obviously, no trace. I even check the internet and ITS (as Starship was called back then) was not even revealed 3 weeks prior, at least not in any video published by SpaceX or any other official site.

Then she starts going through things I apparently said back then, during that previous watching, up to quoting my exact words – some of which sound pretty similar to what I thought while watching the vid (but definitely didn’t speak aloud, as I was too stunned and awe-struck).

At this point, I recall that at 2:40 timemark, she had said something along the lines of, “Look, now it’s going to deploy panels. It looks so funny,” – and the scene happens then, a few seconds after her remark. So either she actually saw the vid before me or guessed the moment based on what was being shown in the vid.

We chalked that up to either her watching it a day prior, just after it got uploaded, and forgetting about it, or an actual harmless glitch (I actually believe in glitches, kinda in a Pratchettesque manner of ‘things just happen – what the hell’).”

60. A Familiar Name

Pixabay

“This summer I bought my girlfriend a last-minute birthday trip to go kayaking around the San Juan Islands off the Washington state coast. After a long drive and ferry trip, we found the tour group of about 20 people and were then shuffled into a shuttle van for a ride to the beach.

Now, my girlfriend has a unique name similar to the name of a famous painter. Let’s say it’s Rebecca Warhol just for fun (it’s not).

She’s a little ray of sunshine and started chatting with the middle-aged woman sitting next to her on the shuttle as we waited to leave. The woman noted that she had always loved the name Rebecca, as it was her mother’s name. They made pleasant small talk in the van until the tour guide passed around the sign-in sheet for all of us to fill out. That’s when things got strange.

My girlfriend wrote her full name on the sheet and passed it on to the woman, who immediately shouted, “Oh my God” and started crying.

After a few minutes of total confusion, she told us, “Rebecca Warhol was my mother’s full name, and these islands were her favorite place in the world. She passed away this summer from cancer, and we’ve traveled hundreds of miles to spread her ashes here.”

We were STUNNED. I literally picked a random date, time, and tour company, and THEN we were split into the same group as this woman AND my girlfriend was sitting right next to her on the shuttle. What the hell? She continued by saying, “My daughter told us that Nana Rebecca would be with us on this trip, and I didn’t believe it until now.”

It was the most unbelievable coincidence we had ever experienced and has totally convinced me that there’s more to this world than we think. As my brother later said, the Universe winked at us that day.”

59. They Wrote A Fake Obituary For Grandpa... Then He Really Died

Pixabay

Kind of off-topic… but what kind of teacher makes a student write an obituary for an assignment?! Disturbing.

“In college, I took a hard news/soft news journalism class where one of the assignments was to write an obituary for one of my grandparents. The professor told us to write it on a deceased grandparent, but if all of your grandparents were still alive we had to choose one. In my case, all of my grandparents were alive.

I procrastinated actually doing the assignment until the night before it was due because it seemed like a morbid assignment (especially once all of my grandparents were still alive).

Scramming for an easy grandparent to write about, I gave my mom a call and asked her for some basic biographical information about my maternal grandfather. As we were talking about my grandpa’s career, my mom couldn’t recall the name of one of the companies he worked at.

She lectured me about waiting until the last minute to write the assignment because it was late — 10:30 pm my grandpa’s time. However, she said she would give him a call to see if he was still awake and be able to answer that question once my assignment was due the following morning.

When my mom called my grandpa, my grandma answered the phone in a panic. My grandma frantically explained that the paramedics had just arrived and were performing CPR on my grandpa because he had stopped breathing and lost consciousness.

My mom was able to stay on the phone with my grandma until they took my grandpa to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

In the time my mom and I had been talking on the phone about my grandpa’s “obituary,” he was dying. (His death was entirely unexpected at that. Although he was in his eighties, he was the healthiest of my grandparents at the time. We ended up using the obituary I wrote for that writing assignment as his actual obituary. Still freaks me out when I think about the timing.”

58. When Hearing Voices Saves A Life

Pixabay

Someone or something was looking out for that little girl.

“This just happened today.

My daughter (4) was playing in her room on the second story. I was two rooms away, playing my guitar. Very loudly, I heard my daughter screaming, “Daddy, come to the guest bedroom. I want to show you something!” This immediately seemed off. We have an extra bedroom, but I had never heard her call it that before. While she also has pretty good speech; this was amazingly clear.

When I walked around the corner, into the bedroom to see what she wanted, I saw two little legs sliding out the window. I jumped across the room and grabbed my daughter by her ankle before she could fall out.

After a not great moment where I yelled at her, then hugged her, then yelled again, then apologized for yelling and hugged her, I finally calmed down. We had a talk about why we don’t play in windows.

While I was putting the window back together (she had pushed and popped out the storm and screen window from the bottom), I asked her what she wanted to show me.

“What?”

“What do you want to show me? You asked me to come see something.”

“No I didn’t, Daddy.”

“Are you sure? You told me to come to the guest bedroom.”

(A little whiny now, and annoyed) “No I didn’t daddy!”

“You didn’t ask me to come to the ‘guest bedroom’ to see something?”

“No.”

“Okay…””

57. He Predicted His Own Death

Pixabay

“So this has always bothered me. I was 13 years old at the time and my dad was a coal miner. He worked 3rd shift (known as the hoot owl shift) which was midnight to noon. As such he got home around 2 pm and slept till around 9, got up had dinner with us, and left for work.

My dad was always pretty gruff and constantly yelled at us if my younger brother or I made too much noise and woke him up after getting home from somewhere (which as an adult now, I completely understand).

So one day I did something to wake him up, I forget what. Anyways he calls me back to the bedroom, and I’m expecting to get a dressing down, but he just looked at me and said:

“It’s ok. Come over here and give me a hug.” What 13-year-old boy wants to hug their dad? I kinda squirmed a bit and he followed up with:

“What if something happened to me?” and just laid there all grizzled and tired…..

I didn’t hug him.

That night there was an accident in the mine. He saved everyone on his crew, including the one person he went back in for.

His was the only death, and I’m convinced he knew it was gonna happen. I’ll never forget his eyes that day.

If someone asked you for a hug, give it to them. I love you, Dad.”

Another User Comments:

“My grandfather was a railroad worker. He and my grandmother lived within a close walk of the railyard.

My grandmother said one day that he said that she should not leave his dinner out like she did every night. He walked to the end of their sidewalk, then stopped and took a long look at her. She says it felt like he was truly taking her in. Looked her head to toe. He dropped dead less than an hour later at work. Stood up to throw away an orange peel and just fell over, dead before he hit the ground.

My grandmother is convinced he knew that would be the last time he saw her.” GilliganGardenGnome

56. Heart Attack Times 3 In One Week

Pixabay

“My dad has told me this story a few times – sometime in the 50s or 60s, some of his cousins had gathered together at their parent’s house after their mother unexpectedly passed away in that same house just days prior. One of the cousins, upon crossing the threshold entering into that house, suddenly had a heart attack and died.

Of course, this was incredibly shocking and tragic, considering that not only the mother but now one of her sons had passed in the same week.

The family then has ANOTHER gathering at the same house. After a few hours of having the family together in the living room, one of the brothers of the recently deceased cousin clutches his hands to his chest, pretending to have a heart attack.

Apparently, this cousin was known for his morbid sense of humor so this, while in bad taste, wasn’t out of the ordinary for him. But he wasn’t joking.

That cousin ALSO had a heart attack and died in the exact same room that his brother died in, in the same house that his mother died in, all in roughly a week’s span.”

55. Time Froze For What Seemed Like Hours

Pixabay

I think we’ve all had that feeling that time is either going by way too slow or too fast than usual.

“When I was in middle school, cell phones weren’t widespread yet, and I also didn’t carry a watch, so I would often do things without knowing the time.

I used to walk a mile or so to a bus stop, and I was usually the only kid that rode the bus at this time. Our schools started at staggered times, and I was the only middle schooler who rode this bus at this particular time.

I would leave my house at 6:50 and get to the bus stop by 7:20ish. I had gone with a watch before, so I knew the timing, and the bus would always arrive by 7:35, so I always had a bit of extra time.

On this particular day, it was the dead of winter and it was overcast out, so it was quite dark. I left the house at the same time I always did, my family was doing the same things at that time they always were and there was no indication of anything being weird.

I swear, I got to the bus stop, and time froze for a long time. Everything about my walk was normal, but while waiting on the usually busy street for my bus, no cars drove by, no pedestrians walked by, and my bus didn’t come for what felt like hours. The sky did get a little brighter as the day went on, but something felt really weird.

I swear I stood there for hours before, suddenly, things returned to normal and there were cars driving by and a few people walked by. My bus pulled up, and I walked on feeling very strange. I looked at the time – it said 7:33 am.

I don’t get what happened.”

54. Trance At A Green Light

Pixabay

“Was about 17 and learning to drive. Mom and I had just been to the grocery and running a few errands. It was almost dark out and we were heading home. Was first in line at a left-turn stoplight in a large intersection. The turn arrow light turned green, and I just sat there. It was a very odd sensation… I knew the light was green and needed to pull through but couldn’t. It was like all motivation to move was gone… almost like when you’re staring off into space, but I was fully conscious that the light had changed and turning was what I was supposed to be doing.

Mom didn’t say a word either, just stared at the light.

About 5 seconds later, a full-size Suburban came barreling through the red light. The speed limit on the road was 45, but he had to have been doing 65-75. The car shook hard when he passed us. After he ran the light, I turned normal and mom and I both kind of “woke up.”

Afterward, we both described the same feeling coming over us at the light. If we hadn’t both been tranced-out or what have you, the Suburban would have struck us broadside. A Suburban vs a Saturn at 60-70 mph wouldn’t have been pretty. Mom would have probably been killed on impact, and I highly doubt I would have survived as well.

We still talk about it every now and then. Just a weird experience.”

53. All 3 Siblings Experienced The Same Horrifying Moment

Pixabay

“It was about midnight and I was chillin’ in my room, watching some show with the volume on low as one does when it’s nighttime and the house is quiet. I’m minding my own business when I get this sudden chill up my spine and my stomach drops. Before I can even be like ‘huh, that’s weird,’ I hear this piercingly loud sound of a woman screaming with her mouth closed…only the sound is both directly in my ear and also coming from the living room directly outside my bedroom door.

It lasts for maybe two seconds before the house becomes silent again.

At this point, my heart is beating out of my chest and I’m sweaty and, despite my hand now being on the doorknob, I’m wrestling between the ideas of ‘this is how people die, you dumb b*tch’ and ‘I have to make sure it wasn’t my mom or sister.’

So family wins out and I begrudgingly open my door to the dark. A few seconds later, both my brother and sister come out of their rooms having the same wide-eyed look.

After seeing that our parents are fast asleep, all doors and windows are locked, the street is empty, and everything is unchanged, we confirm we all heard the exact same thing: a disembodied scream coming from the center of the living room and directly next to us, despite us being on opposite ends of the house at the time.

Still no explanation for it and it’s not the only weird thing to happen in this house.”

52. They Predicted A Motorcycle Accident Without Knowing

Pixabay

It makes you wonder why the brain is able to foresee things like this that we can’t really change or do anything about.

“I awoke one evening back in 2015. I remember waking up really thirsty and going for a drink of water in the kitchen. I kept thinking ‘dag gum’ for some reason. Like, ‘get the dag gum cup, pour the dag gum water,’ which is weird because I don’t say that. Ever.

So anyway, fast forward to the next morning. I get up and drive across town to meet my father-in-law to help him move a refrigerator and on my way, I drove through the scene of a bad car/motorcycle accident.

The rider on the motorcycle was on the ground on his stomach and as I passed by, my blood ran cold when I saw the little license plate on his bike that read ‘DAG GUM’…..

Chills.”

51. A Parenting Moment That Can't Be Explained

Pixabay

“Small apartment, new wife, first kid. In order to get into the kitchen from the living room, you had slalom past the couch, a computer desk, and into the doorway. For an adult, this is fine. For a child who was just learning to run and a computer desk that was at the perfect ‘make sure your kid eats crayons and can only count to spaghetti’ height, it was a nightmare.

I was tired, positioned on one end of the couch and trying to watch TV.

I had just worked a million hours at the factory and just wanted some peace.

ZOOM. My daughter runs by me at ‘I can’t wait to wear a helmet’ speeds and I catch her before she bonks off the desk.

I tell her to stop running to the kitchen and go back to dozing in front of the TV.

ZOOM! She tries it again, giggling, thinking it is now a game. I turn her around, yell at her more sternly, and repeat this game about three more times while my wife watches TV on the other end of the couch.

Then, half asleep, I watch in horror as a little blonde head zooms past me, and into the kitchen.

I lose my sh*t.

I jump up, yelling, and stomp into the kitchen just in time to see the cupboard under the sink close.

‘What in the HELL are you doing?!’ I yell.

‘What…what in the hell was that?’ my wife asks behind me, wide-eyed and pale, my young daughter mostly asleep in her arms.

We never, ever looked, and moved soon after.”

50. They Weren't Supposed To Survive This Car Accident

Pixabay

“I was in a major car accident over a decade ago. My car was hit by another car in such a way where I lost control of the car and somehow went in a full circle on the highway. I T-boned a jersey wall, completely destroying it and cracking the next two in line, and I bounced off that onto an off-ramp, with my side of the car facing traffic.

I am about to exhale when I hear, ‘Hey kid.

When I start counting you have eight seconds to move your car or you’re going to be hit by an 18-wheeler. Do you understand? Eight…seven…six…’

The voice didn’t have to tell me twice, I threw my car into drive and got onto the shoulder. At ‘one,’ an 18-wheeler drove by the spot my car was parked on.

I should have died, according to the cops surveying the crash site later, but I walked away with a few bruises and I needed a root canal a few days later. I probably imagined the voice, but d*mn, I’m believing it was something otherworldly.”

49. Creepy Hallucinations At Night

Pixabay

“I get night terrors sometimes or sleep paralysis. Sometimes when people would talk to me when I’m in that half-sleep phase, and I would always respond with plural pronouns. ‘We’re almost up,’ or ‘We’re still in bed,’ that sort of thing. When people then ask me why I’m using those pronouns, I’ll say something like, ‘We’re all together,’ or ‘My friends are here.’

I’d start to see people, or figures maybe, right at the edge of my peripheral.

They’d look like people I knew. But their faces were always a little bit blurry or very severe-looking, like they had been awake for a few days straight. The creepy thing though is they’d always start in my peripheral vision and then began to loom closer.

The next time I was home, I told my dad about my weird half-dreams. He got very quiet and told me he got them too. Almost every night if he didn’t go right to sleep.”

47. Not Even The Police Could Solve This Mystery

Pixabay

“Many years ago, my husband and I were living on the upper floor of an old house in Minneapolis that had been converted into a duplex. I was up late reading one night and heard someone walking up the back stairway. The footsteps went past our door and continued to the attic — I could hear someone messing with the doorknob, then the footsteps went back down the stairway and up again. I woke my husband up and he could hear it too. The police came and checked it out and found nothing — the back and attic doors were both locked, and it had recently snowed out and there were no footprints in the snow.”

46. That Wasn't You In The Living Room...?!

Pixabay

Doppelganger spirits are uber-creepy…

“When I was 5 or 6, I went around the house calling for my sister. I went to the living room and saw her sitting on a chair. I ran toward her, calling her, but I got no response, which was weird. When I came closer, I realized that the way she was sitting was unnatural. She was really stiff, staring blankly at the wall, and didn’t even notice me. I tried to touch her, but as my fingers got close, I got too scared.

I ran to my parents’ room screaming, looking for my mom.

My sister was sitting there playing on our computer in different clothes. I asked her what was she doing in the living room, but she had no idea what I was talking about.”

Another Users Comments:

“A similar thing happened to my twin brother and me when we were like 4. We were in the basement playing when something rose from behind some boxes in the dark corner of the room.

As the figure got a little closer to us, we realized it was a very scary looking version of me. It had a blank stare with a weird smile that looked sinister and was coming right at us, so we turned and ran up the stairs to our mom and didn’t say anything about it. This weird scary version of myself woke me up one morning a couple of years later. He was laughing maniacally while shaking me, waking me up, and I can still remember the sheer terror of that moment.” Synbax1o1

45. They Swerved Around A Girl That Later Disappeared

Pixabay

“In high school, we’d pass time driving on back-country roads late at night. No booze or drugs or anything involved, just chit chatting and singing along to music or whatever while we drove around. Once, when it was just one of my girlfriends and me, we were cruising when we suddenly came up on a girl in the middle of the road. We both saw her and screamed — she was so close to us, she couldn’t possibly have had enough time to run out of the way. My friend swerved and slammed on the brakes so hard, we wound up horizontal in the street, but when we got out to investigate, no one was there. Total silence, nothing on or off the road in any direction. We were so spooked, so we called a friend to tail us all the way home. Over 15 years later, it still scares me so much. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.”

44. The Nailed Window That Keeps Opening Up

Pixabay

“My grandpa had a bad back, so sometimes he would get up in the middle of the night and go stand against a corner wall leading into the kitchen.

After he died, my cousins and I would take turns staying with my grandma so she wouldn’t be alone. One night, I got up to get some water and he was standing there rubbing his back on the corner like he always did. I gasped audibly and he sorta looked at me and then vanished in a way that made an imprint in my eye for a few minutes, like I’d just stared at the sun except it was his image. Never saw it again after that. The window in the room he died in will still open itself from time to time though, even when we nailed it shut.”

43. Granddaughter Gets Comforted By Deceased Grandfather

Pixabay

“When my dad passed away, it was hard on me but even more so on my daughter. She was barely 2 years old, but my dad was her absolute favorite person in the whole world. Compared to him, I was gum on her shoes, and he loved my daughter literally more than life itself. When he died, my daughter went from room to room looking for him, then walked out and, not being entirely verbal, she lifted her hands in a shrug-like motion which we had taught her meant ‘I don’t know.’ I cried, how do you explain death to a toddler? When I went to lay her down that night, she was absolutely inconsolable.

She was upset that her schedule changed — she wanted to play with Grandpa.

I was holding her, also crying, trying to keep myself calm so she could sleep and failing. Suddenly, there came a click and a little red light from her interactive music chair, and it began to play music. My daughter calmed down and began to fall asleep until the chair clicked off and she began to cry again. The chair clicked back on and began to play another song, and she calmed down.

This went on for about 15 minutes before she finally went to sleep. The thing about the chair is that it’s interactive; to get it to play music, you have to stand/sit or flip the pages on the book. It also has a power switch which, when I took it out of the room to inspect, was securely in the off position. The batteries were still new, and it has never done that again. I believe it was my dad doing his best to tell us, but mostly my daughter, that he was still there. She dreams about him now and tells me they have a lot of fun together fishing.”

42. Mysterious Disappearing Cut

Pixabay

Easy come, easy go…

“I used to work in a large old hotel. At the time this happened, I was under a great deal of family-related stress. I worked evenings, and I had come in for my shift only to realize I had not brushed my teeth. I grabbed a toothbrush and toothpaste and went into the bathroom that is just off the lobby. It was very slow, so I was sure I could quickly brush and get to work.

The instant I entered, it was chilly and seemed darker than usual, like they had decided to go with different light bulbs. I went to the sink and felt so uneasy. I could feel someone else, but I knew I was alone. I quickly started to brush, then looked in the mirror to brush my tongue. Suddenly, a cut appeared down the center of my tongue. I kept spitting and rinsing the blood, and then I felt like the room was gonna just close up on me.

I spit in the sink one last time and ran out of the bathroom and into the back office. The receptionist stood up the minute she saw me with this look of concern. I thought I must be bleeding everywhere. There was a mirror farther back in the office, behind the front desk, so I rushed to it to see what was happening in my mouth. But when I opened my mouth…nothing. No cut. No blood. I never went in that bathroom again, and I never understood what happened.”

41. It Wasn't Her Daughter Who Was Calling Her Mommy

Pixabay

“I woke up two nights ago, late at night. I didn’t know what had woken me, so I just lay there, eyes shut. A few minutes go by and I hear, ‘Mommy!’ said clearly right by my head. Thinking it was my daughter, I rolled over and said, ‘What?’ Nobody was there. I got up and all the kids were asleep soundly. There’s no way that anyone could’ve run out of the room — the door was still shut when I rolled over.

It was also definitely a real sound because my son (sleeping in my bed) woke up to it too.

The feeling in my house was horrifying. I couldn’t shake the feeling it was watching me. I went back to bed but did not sleep.”

Another User Comments:

“Reminds me of something that happened to me some years back. I was in bed asleep but was having a nightmare when I slowly woke up to see a small hand creeping around the door frame and a voice croak out “mommmmyy,” so I started screaming, and the voice by the door started screaming which terrified me more, so I covered my head with a blanket and screamed even louder.

Meanwhile, my husband, who woke up when he heard “mommy” was sitting up in bed completely baffled and had to calm not just me, but our youngest as well, after he convinced us both it was ok. She had woken up because of a nightmare and I can only imagine how scary that was for her, to be brave enough to go downstairs only to have mom scream like she’s being murdered because you woke her up.” garbagegoat

40. Unknown Officers At The Door

Pixabay

Lived in the Hollywood Hills and this happened in the early 80’s.

Crazy knocking at my door at 9 PM. I go to answer the door and there’s a lady there just hysterical, talking about, “There’s so much blood…” She looks normal and is dressed in clean clothing, so we let her in. She tells a story about seeing someone get stabbed. I call the police, and 2 uniformed LAPD officers arrive in 10 minutes. They take the lady away and tell us that she has was reported missing, has a mental condition, and lives up the street.

All good.

30 minutes later, another knock at the door. Two different cops this time, responding to the call. They have no idea who the other 2 cops were! Take our information and statements, description of the officers, and the lady as well. Radio conversations back and forth ensue, and they really don’t have any idea how any other cops could have picked her up because they were given the call 40 minutes ago…”

39. Cousin In Two Places At Once?

Pixabay

“I had to take care of my mentally handicapped cousin a few years back. She could get around well enough, but due to severe arthritis in her knees and ankles, she had to be watched, helped into the bath, sh*t like that. I would go into her room in the morning, help her to her walker so she could p*ss, and make her breakfast.

One morning, I heard the water running in the bathroom when I went to check in on her.

I had to pass her room on the way to the bathroom. When I did, I saw that she was in her rocking chair in the corner, her blanket over her head, and she was rocking back and forth.

“Don’t leave the water on; you’re going to flood the place.” I went into the bathroom to shut the faucet off, and my cousin was there, washing her face.

I immediately ran back to the room, but it was just her blanket crumbled up in the rocking chair. My cousin wanted to know why I undid her bed. I didn’t stay too long after that.”

38. Figures In The Windows At Night

Pixabay

“My boyfriend works night shift, and I was asleep alone in the house. I get woken up in the middle of the night by my puppy whining in the living room, and I assume it’s because he wants outside. I’m just about to open the back door, when I hear this weird scratching/clicking sound at the front door like someone was sticking something in the lock. I go to check, and I can see the silhouette of somebody standing there through the window in the door.

I then notice there is a second figure in the living room window, although it’s too dark to make out any features. I know they can see me because I didn’t have any blinds at this point, and they just stood there. I totally freaked and called the cops, then my dad.

I huddled in the kitchen out of sight of any windows and waited for someone to come. My parents live across town and showed up before the cops. They were gone at this point, but the neighbors across the street were up and saw the car. I ended up staying at my parents’ place that night, and when I came home the next morning, I noticed the basement window was partially kicked in. I got a security system installed the next day. I still have no idea who it was.”

37. Talkative Ghosts Keeping Them Up

“I have a story that didn’t happen to me but rather my friend’s dad. This guy isn’t the type to bullsh*t, so I believe him 100%.

My friend’s dad (we’ll call him Jack) and his brother (we’ll call him Tom) lived with each other in the 80s. It was just the two of them living in the house, no one else. So, this one night Jack is coming home at night and walks into his living room to see a bunch of old people sitting around talking.

As he walks in, they all just quiet down and awkwardly look at him as he walks by. He doesn’t see Tom anywhere, so he just assumes Tom will be back to tend to his guests.

Jack has work the next morning, so he goes into his room to get some sleep but is kept up from all the people talking. He walks out from his room and is promptly met up with Tom who is coming out of his room to tell Jack to keep his friends quiet. However, Jack was coming out to tell Tom to keep HIS friends quiet. They walk out from the hallway into the living room only to see that it’s empty with the leftover smell of musk.”

36. Charged By A Stranger In The Night

Pixabay

“I delivered newspapers in a fairly rural area the summer after I graduated high school. One night, it’s pouring rain and I’m driving down this dirt road that is a dead-end to a farmer’s house. I’ve been down this road a few dozen times and know the routine – drop the paper off in the box at the end of the drive, whip a sh*tty, back up the road, and off to my next stop.

This time, as I am getting out of my car to place the newspaper in the holder, I see this man in the ditch wearing a drenched white shirt running at me as fast as he can.

He got within 20 feet of me. I could see what my mind pictured as a hatchet or ax. I had never ran so hard in my life.

I ran back around the front of my car, jumped in, and took off. Everything happened so fast that I almost didn’t realize where I was.

It must have been about 5-10 miles later that I attempted to call 911. No signal using my Motorola flip phone in the middle of nowhere in the year 2000. I had to stop at a farmer’s house to call the police at 2:00 am.”

Some people might consider this a guardian angel experience.

“When my aunt was in college, she took a night lab class that would let out late. One night, she was walking back to her car and someone came up behind her, pressed something into her back, and told her to keep walking. Suddenly a man coming toward her who she had never met before looked at her, threw open his arms for a hug, and said, “How are you? I haven’t seen you in so long!” He then whispered, “Play along. He has a gun.” My aunt immediately played along, hugging back, and acting excited to see this stranger. The guy who was behind my aunt quickly backed off and walked away. The hero took my aunt to the nearest emergency alert post, pushed the button for her, and told her to stay put while he went to get help. He never returned.”

“My best friend and I were having a sleepover at her house. We were teenagers, and for some reason, we were home alone. We’re goofing off upstairs when suddenly we hear a crash downstairs. We of course freak out for maybe 30 minutes before we get the nerve to go check it out. I grab a bat and we slowly creep down the steps. In the kitchen, we find a glass bowl had fallen and broke, but the really creepy part is that all the pieces had been picked up and put in another bowl on the table. We still have no idea how that happened.”

“My girlfriend and I had an unsettling experience on a long drive home one night. We were coming back from my grandmother’s house who lives out in a rural area.

We had just turned off a county road back onto the interstate when I notice a vehicle following me closely at high speed. At first I thought he was going to ram us, but the vehicle would back off at the last second, fall back a little bit, then speed up again as if to ram our vehicle.

By this point I had picked up speed considerably, and was trying to gauge the seriousness of what was happening when they started flashing their brights and using their turn signal as if they wanted me to pull over to the side of the road.

All while intermittently speeding up and
fake ramming me. From lights of a vehicle behind them, I could see at least two larger silhouettes in their vehicle, and had no intention of either pulling over, or letting them get next to or ahead of me.

We played this game for probably about five minutes straight, while I and my girlfriend are trying keep calm until suddenly they just back off and fade off as distant lights behind us as I continued at speed.

While I am pretty sure this was just some morons having their fun on a cold November night, it was extremely frightening while it was happening.”

31. Tribal, Possessed, Or Psychotic Woman?

Pixabay

“When I lived in South Africa, I traveled a lot with a Christian missionary/humanitarian aid worker. He handled the spiritual stuff, and I tended to work more with the local (mostly Xhosa) people, helping them with non-spiritual issues.

In July 2010, we went to a village in the middle of nowhere. As soon as we stepped out the truck, we knew something was wrong. We hadn’t been able to contact our guy in the village all day, and there was no one around at all.

Piet and I went from house to house, looking for, well, anyone, but everywhere was completely empty.

Eventually, we saw a figure run around the corner of a building on the far side of the village. It was a young woman, stark naked, running straight for us. Her arms were flailing, and she was running like an animal, occasionally dropping to all fours, then back on her feet.

As she got closer, Piet told me to get back in the truck, then he screamed at me to get in the truck.

I’d seen this guy watch a Xhosa witchdoctor burn a dozen chickens alive and not bat an eyelid, so when he lost his sh*t, I knew it was serious.

I closed the truck door as she reached us. She was covered in blood; there were cuts and slices all over her face, arms, and breasts; one of her ears was missing – I think, there was a lot of blood – her teeth were bloody, and she had a look in her eye of absolute, untamed rage.

The screeching sound she made is unlike anything I’ve heard before or since.

I can still hear it so vividly in my mind. Looking into her face, seeing her wide psychotic eyes and gaping mouth as she made that unholy sound froze me in my seat.

Piet had started the truck, and already started reversing up the dirt track, but she followed. He turned the car (all the while she was scratching at the windows and metalwork) then sped off up the track. She followed us. She didn’t keep up, obviously, but for a while, I thought she was going to.

I’ve never seen someone run that fast in bare feet.

The journey back to our base town was almost silent. I spent most of it concentrating on the sound of my own breathing, and the rumble of the road.

I asked Piet what that was and what we should do. He said the girl was no doubt insane, had a psychotic break or something, but the locals would have immediately thought her possessed. If she didn’t kill herself, the other villagers would within days. He suggested they had gathered in one house for safety.”

30. Unexplained Baby Movement

Pixabay

My mom told me one that’s kinda creepy.

When I was a baby, maybe about 6 months old, she put me into my cot to sleep one afternoon. It was a high sided wooden thing with a drop side for access that required you to press in 2 little nubs, one each corner to release the side.

She came upstairs and found me outside the cot, asleep in the middle of the floor about 2 meters from the cot. The sides were up, there is no way I could have opened it; I couldn’t stand and the sides were far too high to jump over.

Apparently, she never felt comfortable leaving me in the room after that.”

29. Cigarette Case Bought Twice

Pixabay

“In the late 90’s, I went to a yard sale about 6 blocks from my house (I live in a fairly small town). I found this silver cigarette case that I thought would make me look stylish and uber-sophisticated at the bar. I bought it for $2 from a guy that was at least 85 years old. I took it home and immediately dropped it on the sidewalk and dented one corner, but it was still good-looking, so I used it for a while.

After a couple of bar trips, it became a pain in the a** as it only held 8 smokes, so I tossed it in a nightstand drawer and forgot about it. A few months later, I saw another yard sale at the same place and stopped to look. I found a cigarette case just like the one I bought and picked it up. It not only had the same dented corner, but I opened it up, and there was a cigarette that was my brand inside. For some reason, I felt the need to buy it again for $2 from the same old geezer. When I got home, the case was not in my nightstand. I will never forget the smile that old f*cker gave me when I bought it the second time.”

28. Grandmother Buried Alive

Pixabay

“I worked with a lady once who was pretty old, I’d say about 70 years old. Since our job was pretty boring, we talked a lot and she had all kinds of crazy stories. But this one creeps me out still. She said when her grandma died, they had her buried in a wood box in the backyard, as was pretty custom in those days. Well, years later, they have a family plot in a cemetery and decide to dig her grandma up to move her to the family plot. She said when they took the lid off the coffin, it had claw marks all over the inside. The grandma had apparently been buried alive.”

27. Followed By The Singing "Girl"

Pixabay

“This is something that happened to me back in 10th grade. I couldn’t sleep and I was feeling restless, so I decided to take a walk along the greenway near my house. Most people would have reservations about walking through the woods alone in the dead of night, but it was a safe neighborhood and I knew the greenway like the back of my hand.

No more than five minutes of walking through the woods and I hear a girl singing.

I recognize the tune right away; it’s Camptown Races. Y’kno, “Camptown ladies, sing this song, Doo-da, Doo-da.” I look around for the girl, but it’s pitch black. Not wanting to suddenly come across her and frighten her, I shout out, “You have a nice voice!” No reply; she just keeps singing. Weird. I continue walking, but the singing isn’t getting any further away. Is she following me? Or are we just coincidentally walking in the same direction?

I make a sharp turn and start walking down another path.

The singing follows. Another sharp turn. Again it follows. Okay, now I’m 100% sure this b*tch is following me. I start trying to pin the location of the voice with no luck. I think she was purposefully changing her volume to prevent me from knowing when I was getting closer or further. Now I’m really starting to get freaked out. I bolt and start sprinting back home. I was running track at the time, so I was pretty certain I could ditch her.

I get home kick off my shoes and turn on my TV. I’m about ten minutes into an episode of Aqua Teen when I hear a voice that’s not coming from the TV. It’s a girl’s voice singing f*cking Camptown Races.

For a brief moment, I just sit there in pure terror. This can’t be happening. I run outside barefoot and frantically look around. I realize that the voice is coming from above me. She’s on the f*cking garage roof.

I kept a ladder on the side of the garage, so I could climb up and smoke (my parents thought I was tanning). The ladder was the only way up or down unless you wanted to jump and chance a sprained ankle. This is it. I’ve got her. I race up the ladder just in time to see a figure in a red hoodie disappear off the side of the roof leading to the backyard. She had jumped. I watched her race across my backyard, completely unphased by the fall, and book it over our 6-foot fence like it was no big deal.

I briefly considered chasing after her, but I couldn’t in my bare feet. Frankly, I don’t know if I wanted to. I don’t believe in ghosts and ghouls, but I’m still freaked out by the whole thing to this day.”

26. The Creature On The Telephone Pole

“This happened to my friend. She told me that when she was little, she was playing with her little brother and sister one night. Her little brother looked out the window and said, “Who is that man?” They all went to the window to see what he was talking about. She said there was a white figure sitting on top of the telephone pole. Looked like a man. He was staring at them with a huge creepy smile. Then he just stood up and jumped off the pole and simply vanished before they saw him hit the ground. She said it scared them so much, her sister won’t even talk about it.”

25. Remember A Little Girl He Never Met?

Pixabay

This whole thing was probably just a coincidence, but it still freaks me out. I was waiting at the bus stop around two years ago and just start chatting with this lady who was waiting for a different bus. It was just a normal conversation, but there was an odd undertone that I could just barely make out, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. I don’t know what it was, but I know it was there.

Finally, my bus comes. I get on and am the only one there. All of a sudden, I hear “Hey!” I glance up and there’s a little girl, who says, “Remember me?” She reminded me strangely of the woman I was speaking with at the bus stop but younger. You could cut the tension with a knife, and when I got off, I swear she watched me as the bus left.

It was probably just a coincidence, but I’m certain that I was the only one on the bus when I got on. Honestly, though, it still freaks me out a little bit today.”

24. Shattered Pot In The Middle Of The Room

Pixabay

“My grandmother told me a story that creeps her out still.

Back when my grandfather was alive, my grandmother woke up one night to hear something smash downstairs. She woke my grandfather up and made him go check it out with a baseball bat, and when he got downstairs, there was a broken flower pot in the middle of their family room floor, about 20 feet from where it usually was. There was no dirt trail, it was just smashed on the floor in the middle of the room as if someone dropped it straight down.”

This reminds me of 8 or 9 years ago when my grandpa was watching TV, as usual, in the living room. The kitchen table was behind him about 6 feet against the wall. I was standing by the table talking to my mom & we were all watching the TV. My grandpa has a plastic white cross sitting on top of the TV, right in the middle. All of a sudden the cross comes flying off the TV into the floor. We all seen it, & said "that was weird." A lot of other similar small weird things happened in that house also.

23. The Little Door Creaked Open

Pixabay

“Just a few months ago, while I was still in school, I rented an old house with two of my friends. I lived in the basement and they each had a room upstairs. Several strange things happened to me while I was living in that basement.

The first was that I had just gotten a dog and he was about 4 months old at the time. Now and then, right when I turned the tv off to go to sleep, my dog would start whining and growling at one corner of my room.

He would usually not get on my bed because he wasn’t allowed, but during these times, he would jump on my bed and get as close to me as he could, all without his eyes ever leaving that corner. This happened about 5 times over the course of 4 months.

Then, toward the end of the school year, when I was about to move out, the scariest thing that has ever happened to me in my life occurred.

Under our stairs was a little door that led to a small space that had a dirt floor. There was also a really weird, old wooden piece of what looks like a map nailed to the inside of the door, so it’s a pretty spooky place. Up until the day before this incident, we had kept a small chair in front of this door that I laid my coats and things on, but we had some friends over the night before, so we brought that chair upstairs.

It was dark (probably 8 pm) and I had just been upstairs in the kitchen. I had just gotten off the stairs and was about to open the door to my room when the door to the little closet under the stairs opened so slowly and with THE loudest creak I’ve ever heard in my life.

I stood rooted to the spot, frozen in fear, staring at the closet, waiting for whatever was about to come out of it.

I literally stood there for about 5 minutes, absolutely terrified. Eventually, I opened the door to my room and locked it as fast as I could. I wasn’t sure either of my roommates were home, so I called my female roommate and she was there. I spent the rest of that night upstairs with her, still too scared to go back downstairs. I should mention that I’m a 21-year-old man who does not scare easily.

Now I know many of you will probably say it was the wind or the fact that I had just come down the stairs or something just as my roommates did, but I’ve had those things happen to me before and been kind of creeped out, but this was different. The second I heard that closet open and looked over to see it opening so slowly, I felt this sheer terror. It honestly felt like there was someone or something else in the room with me that wanted me to see that door open.”

22. A Call That Couldn't Have Been Made

Pixabay

“I was 14 or so years old, My mom was grocery shopping and my brother was at his friend’s house. I was all by myself at home. The phone rang and it was my grandma screaming frantically at me. She eventually calmed down enough to say she got a call from my mom saying, “Help, the kids!” over and over again. She said it was our number on the caller ID. I told her this was impossible; my mom was out shopping. She was adamant. My mom walked in while my grandma was still on the phone, and my mom calmed her down and assured her we didn’t call her.

She was still freaked out, so we went over to her house. She showed us our number on the caller ID at a time when nobody should have called. It was very creepy.”

21. Creepy Whistling From Nowhere

Pixabay

“Was around 17 and had gotten home from work rather late. Went straight to my room to change and found myself hungry. It was probably around 1 am by this time and I didn’t want to cook anything and make too much noise as I was afraid I’d wake the parents. So when I ventured to my kitchen, I started shuffling through the cupboards looking for a quick fix of snack food to tide me over until the morning.

Now our kitchen was positioned so that the kitchen door led to our back yard. The door itself was an old wooden door, but my dad had added one of those metal security gates on the outside for good measure. It was one of the security gates where the holes on the door were small enough so that insects could not get through, and therefore, we could leave the wooden door open in the summer to allow for a breeze to go through the house.

In addition to the security door, my dad had also installed one of those auto security lights, you know the ones……they go on automatically whenever their motion sensor is triggered. Usually, the light would only go on when I would let my dog outside to pee at night. However, on this night, he was already lounging in my room waiting for me to come back with some snacks for him as well.

Anyway, getting ahead of myself.

So, I was busy creeping through the cupboards and finally hit the jackpot with some PopTarts. Knowing my dog, I didn’t want to chance him snagging the tart from my hand as I ate it, so I busted those things open then and there and ate them raw (I am hardcore like that). As I am standing there eating the first PopTart, I hear a faint whistling sound from outside (wooden door was open). At first, I thought it was the wind but then I noticed that the whistling was a distinct tune and not random whistling.

I didn’t know the tune, but I could tell that it was from a song…sounded like a happy and sad song all rolled into one (know that doesn’t make sense, but that’s the best way I can describe it).

After standing there for around 20 seconds, I decided that it must be one of my friends that lives down the block screwing with me. Maybe they were on the other side of the fence and whistling there to scare me.

Right when I am thinking this thought, I see the security light suddenly turn on. I quickly looked around the surrounding area but don’t see anyone or anything that could have set the light off. The whistling is still going on……

Now I am in semi-panic mode. Is it one of my friends? If so, where are they hiding? If it’s not one of them then who is it? I am stuck standing there now and can’t move as I stare outside waiting for something to happen.

Nothing does….a minute or so goes by…with the whistling continuing and the light remaining on. Suddenly the whistling gets louder and I see the doorknob to my metal door start to move up and down and I can see through the metal door to see that there is no one there. The whistling sounds like it’s right outside now and the doorknob keeps moving like someone is trying to get in. The security light is still on so I have a clear view of the front of the door and know for sure there is no one there. F*ck the PopTarts….I dropped the box and jetted back to my room, slammes and locked the door, and hid under my blankets with my bat and dog.

I never went out to the kitchen at night after that.”

20. Attacked By A Lady Ghost

Pixabay

“My neighbor once told me about why he moved out of his old house. The house used to belong to a widow who committed suicide by taking a bullet to the skull. One night, he went to bed and was woken up by a woman on top of him. He thought it was his wife trying to have some sexy time, so he went along with it. He was making out with her until he started suffocating. He tried to push her off, but she was hella strong. He tried to grab her hair, and as he went for the back of her head, he felt a hole in its skull. He passed out and woke up to a freezing bedroom. His wife recalls nothing. ”

19. Empty House Not Empty For A Night

Pixabay

“I live in a completely normal neighborhood. There was a house once for sale (a couple of years ago) that is about 100m away from my house. It was for sale for quite a lot of time actually (a few months) and it was completely empty. There weren’t any curtains or anything, so you could see inside that the house is literally completely empty, no furniture, just white walls, empty rooms.

Anyway, here’s where it gets creepy.

I walked by this house every night at around 10 pm when going home (from hanging out with friends or something) and I always looked through the windows to see if someone moved in, but it was always empty and dark. One night, however…there was this one night when I walked by the house and it had lights on. There was furniture (couldn’t see much, but there were tables, a tv, refrigerator most likely, etc.) and there were a bunch of old people sitting around a round table talking and smoking cigarettes. Okay, I didn’t find it creepy at all; I just thought to myself, hey, they must have finally sold the house and I haven’t noticed it in a few days…they moved in very quickly.

But…the next day, I walked by the house again when it was daylight, and it was freaking empty (again no furniture, no tables, just white walls, and empty rooms), and the “for sale” sign was still f*cking there. I still didn’t think much about it…to be honest, I didn’t even care; I was really weirded out for a bit, but I forgot about it in a few hours.”

18. Brothers Attacked By... Bigfoot?

Pixabay

“He was around 21 and I around 18. Parents were out of town, so we decided to have a couple of beers, sit by a fire in the backyard, and chill.

Gets to be around 3 am, and we hear the crunching of leaves in the woods, sounded like 20 feet or so away. Our nearest neighbor lived a few miles away, so we were a little freaked out.

We both looked at each other and sprinted to our shed.

The shed had a door like a garage, and as we turned to shut it, we saw a human-like figure running at us. We slammed the door, locked it from the inside, and moved to the back.

There was pounding at the door for around 20 minutes or so, and we heard what sounded like cackling. After the noise stopped, we took turns on watch and waited till morning. He grabbed a shovel, I grabbed a crowbar, and we opened the door and saw….

nothing.

We thought we had imagined it until we saw the footprints. My brother wears size 13.5 (US), and these prints were at least 2-3 inches bigger. No shoes, and one too many toes on both feet.

We got back to the house, called the cops, they sent someone out to check on us, we showed them the prints, they took pictures and told us to call if anything else happened. Moved out around 3 months later.

Our old neighbor called me up yesterday and asked if I had seen anything strange around. He described the footprints to me perfectly. They were outside his window.”

17. She Stood In The Middle Of The Road And Stared

Who even does that?

“When I was younger, maybe around 12, I was alone at home with my sister who was 10 at the time. Our mom went down the road to a family friend’s house. It was really late (past 10), and she was still not back. We were watching TV when suddenly someone hit the mailbox twice really hard, and without looking, we opened the door straight away (we assumed it was Mom).

When we opened it, there was no one at the door, but in the middle of the road, there was a lady just standing there staring at us. It was really dark, so we didn’t see the face or anything properly, and then we just shut the door and sort of sh*t ourselves. Our mom came back around 20 or so minutes later, but definitely one of the creepiest moments ever.”

16. A Trip To The Pharmacy Turns Into A Trip Back In Time

Pixabay

“I was at CVS one day, and it was storming and windy (cliche, I know), and I went inside, and when I came back there was a wallet sitting on the hood of my car, I figured that’s odd, and I hopped in my car with the wallet and started looking through it. It was a pretty typical wallet: some cards, $32 in cash, a hunting license, and a driver’s license, then it gets weird: the photo on the driver’s license photo is empty, and also, the license expired in 1987…

Weird. Look at the hunting license, and it too expired in 1987. I found a card for a doctor in the wallet too, so I called the #, and the number was dead; he was a psychiatrist.

When I got home, I Googled the address on the license, and the address didn’t exist on Google Maps, but I knew what road it was on. A couple of days later after trying to figure this out, I said forget it and just drove all the way to the road the license said and kinda found the address.

It skipped like 237, 241, blank lane. No 239. There was a dirt driveway though, and at the end of that was a dilapidated trailer, and I yelled to see if anyone was there and noped the hell out of there it was the creepiest feeling place I have ever been.

After Googling, a couple of days later I found the psychiatrist on the card and called his office saying I found this guy’s wallet, and he said, “You’ll never be able to find him.” I asked, “Why’s that?” and he started rushing the call and said, “I’d prefer not to discuss that case. Sorry.””

15. They Returned Home To All Doors Open And All Appliances On

Pixabay

“I grew up in a forest town kinda out in the boonies, tons of trees not many residents. When I was around 16, my mother went out of town one weekend for business. I was a pretty good kid and we had a good relationship. The only three rules were: If you party, do it elsewhere, don’t drive drunk, and lock up the house when you go out. I actually didn’t have major plans that weekend, so I went to hang and my friend’s place.

I locked up the house, turned off the lights, and headed out. Wasn’t a huge night, but we hung out, ate food, watched movies, etc.

I left and came home around 1 am. I knew something was up the second I got home. The front door was wide open. I peeked nervously inside, and literally every Godd*mned door in the house was wide open (multiple balcony doors, front, back, everything), and every single light AND appliance was on and running (TVs, toaster, computers, F*CKING EVERYTHING).

To make things even more weird, my dog (150lbs, Purebred Alaskan Timber wolf) came trotting up like nothing was up. My mother is in Law Enforcement, so I quickly went to my room, loaded my handgun, and cased the house, room by room, calling out loud that I was armed, and any intruders should either present themselves or run.

I didn’t find a d*mn thing. Just lots of running appliances. To this day, I have no idea what the hell that was. Nothing was missing, just on and open. The house has had a lot of crazy sh*t happen in it. I tend to be a materialist and don’t buy too much into the ghosty thing, but Godd*mn, I can’t explain that one.”

14. Child's Ghost Couldn't Remember The Code

Pixabay

My life is the most mundane one you can think about, but here’s what happened to me. I work at a summer camp where counselors and campers stay overnight for a week. I really hated my room, as I found the bunk beds and walls to be too small for my taste, so instead, I decided to secretly start sleeping in the staff lounge. The staff lounge entrance has a simple electronic lock for which you need a 4-digit code for it to open.

I found the couches to be much more comfortable than my bed and felt right at home. Sleeping at camp never made me happier! Until this one time.

Because it’s summer and from where I am, nights are often warm, I didn’t need covers so long as the ceiling fans were off. But this time, I woke up in the middle of the night shivering. Usually in the movies, at this point, the character freaks out and checks around with a flashlight before (s)he gets jumped by an ugly man.

But this was a quick fix for me with a couple of extra couch cushions placed on top of me. As I was trying to get back to sleep, however, I heard footsteps moving towards the door. There are about five rising steps before reaching the door, and they creak with the smallest of pressures. No big deal, I thought; someone’s simply here for a midnight snack. I began to doze off again, returning to the calls of my dreams, when the error sound beeps.

The 4-digit code that was entered was wrong. No big deal, I thought for the last time; I always mess up the last digit with my giant thumbs.

Again, 4 beeps followed with another error beep. I was disheartened, as this was clearly ruining my beauty sleep. Maybe this idiot soul has bigger thumbs than me? I got up slightly and opened my mouth to call out the password when I froze at the sound of another error beep.

All of us counselors have it memorized since we go up here all the time to access our laptops and the kitchen, and campers are all heavily supervised at night time with our night duty. So who was it that was trying to get in?

I listened keenly to perhaps hear any identifying clues of whoever was just outside the door. With the fifth attempt, the stranger seemed to have given up, as footsteps began to descend away from the door.

But the way it happened was far from relieving. Listening intently, I could even hear my heart pound against my rib cage, I never heard a single breath, nor did I hear the way that carpet scrunches when you pivot to turn down the stairs (the hallway was not big enough), meaning the stranger went straight back down from whence he came from, in pitch darkness, backward.

The truly scariest part of my night, I swear on my life, was when I could no longer hear the footsteps.

I heard a small voice, tiny, but nevertheless unlikely to belong to a real child, that rose slowly from the base of the steps to my couch.

“Booo.”

Not two seconds later, the loudest BANG erupted from a nearby wall, making me literally let out a little p*ss and scream like I had never gone through puberty. No doors were ever opened; no doors were ever closed. The stranger should still be in the building. So I sat vigilantly with vacant eyes and hypersensitive ears until the break of dawn.”

13. Figure From My Friend's Nightmares In Real Life

Pixabay

“Once when watching a movie in my friend’s basement, I saw movement in my peripherals and looked over to the couch he was on. At first, I didn’t notice it, my only source of light being the television and my main thought being it was strange that my friend hadn’t seemed to have moved.

Then I saw it.

Behind the couch was a shadowy silhouette of a figure, darker than the backdrop of the lightless room. But its face..

my God. It appeared to be a mask, colored like skin, but shiny like porcelain. It was almost flawless and practically featureless. A slit for a mouth, slightly agape, with no lips at all. The nose was pulled back, nostrils flared, and seemed as though it were a snake’s. And the eyes, while not menacing, were dark gaping pits of horror.

I stared into the figures soulless eyes, for longer than I would have liked, but I was frozen with fear.

After what felt like an eternity, my friend took notice of my terrified gaze in his direction and spoke to me. I did not hear his words, as they were muffled by my adrenaline. But as he spoke, the creature began to quickly drift away, around the corner to the next room. It never broke its gaze with me.

My friend came over to me and shook me, asking if I was alright, and my instincts finally kicked in.

I ran to the light switch, flipped it on, and grabbed the nearest weapon, a pull-up bar laying on the floor. I babbled incoherently as my friend followed me, searching frantically from room to room. As I caught my breath, I began to explain in detail what I had seen, and my friend stopped dead in tracks.

“Are you being funny?”

“Not even a little.”

“Dude, really, it’s not cool.”

“I’m not joking dude; I am freaking out.”

“Dude… I’ve been having nightmares of a thing like that since I was a kid.”

We searched the whole house, never found anyone, and the doors upstairs were securely locked. I don’t go over there anymore.”

“It was my first year of fatherhood. My wife, son (approximately 7 months at the time), and I had just moved to a house. Being a young couple, it was a small, older home. Most of the neighbors were the original owners and literally dying off all around us. My neighbor across the street was 88 and bought her house brand new in her 20’s. So I imagine someone died in this house sometime before we lived there.

Anyway, it’s been a long day and the baby is finally asleep in his crib in our bedroom. I passed out on the couch from just being extra tired from getting up every night multiple times for the past several months. All of a sudden, I wake up to my son screaming at the top of his lungs lying in the doorway between my bedroom and living room. The house is completely dark and quiet otherwise.

I rush over to pick him up from the ground and soothe him. It dawns on me at point that he isn’t in his crib. Or covered even though it’s winter and my wife is still in bed staring at us.

I check all around to see if he somehow learned to walk, climb his crib, and then rolled over. No way. I’m creeped out and Mama is creeped out, but whatever; it’s late and he’s quiet again finally.

Her and I go to the kitchen to get something to drink and talk about why he was on the floor. He starts screaming again and we both go check. I flicked the light switch and walk over to his crib. 3 to 5 seconds go by, and the f*cking light goes out! The switch is still up and the bulb blew but not instantly it was delayed. Holy f*ck. No clue why, what, or how that all happened. I have never ever EVER been so scared in my life.”

11. Window Tapping And An Accident

Pixabay

“I always tell this story to my friends whenever they ask about the scrape scar on my thigh. It’s not the creepiest thing to happen to me but rather the most inexplicable. I was walking down an empty street late at night in a not-so-safe town. Up ahead, I saw this house completely marked up with “do not cross” yellow police tape. So, being curious, I stared at the front of the house as I passed it.

Here’s where things get creepy. As I passed the first, dark window, I hear this very audible tap-tap-tap sound, as if something was rhythmically tapping the window from the inside as I was passing it. Slightly freaked out, I began to walk a bit faster, passing the front door and proceeding to pass by the other front window. As I began to pass this second window the tapping SWITCHED from the first window to the second as if the thing inside the house was following me. I obviously flipped sh*t and ran across the street. Unfortunately for me, the roads were fairly wet after a rainy day, and I completely ate it in the middle of the road. I ended up limping to my destination with a bloody thigh.”

10. They Saw A "Reaper," Then A Death Occurred A Week Later

Pixabay

I thought the Grim Reaper was just a hoax…

“When I was about 6 years old and was playing with the kid next door one afternoon, the lights went out all of a sudden. We were by ourselves since all of her family members were at the hospital with her mom who was suffering from leukemia then. So when the blackout happened, my friend went out of the house to the porch and was doing something I don’t remember.

I was by the door looking outside when something made me look back into the house.

There, in the living room, was a shadow figure walking around – tall, dark, no recognizable features whatsoever. It was as if someone was wearing a black whole bodysuit but not as definite as a real person would be in a room. Wasn’t too blurry either, but I noticed it moved around the room as if it were looking for something.

I actually wasn’t scared at this point, since I’ve never seen anything like it and I was a curious child.

The next thing I knew, it went up to the second floor and so I followed it and continued to watch the shadow figure walk around the bedroom – again kinda looking for something. Then it started moving towards the wall on my right. I remember thinking this time,”Oh sh*t, is it gonna disappear!? Is it gonna disappear!?” And sure it enough, it vanished through the wall.

I forgot about all this until I was around 17 and was watching one of those “Real Ghost Stories” on tv in Japan (the ones they show every summer season before ‘obon’ holidays).

One guy talked about his own experience of seeing shadow figures in a hospital where he was confined in for a few months. He mentioned that he sometimes saw them beside people who were about to die.

Chills ran up and down my spine when I heard this. I remember my friend’s mom died about a week after I saw that shadow thing. But at least I now have my own understanding of what that dark figure I saw might have been: either Death or the thing that ‘picks you up’ when you die.”

“My dad says he sees shadow people around people. When he does they die soon after. Within days.” DeathHaze420

9. Seeing Odd Figures In A Shared Dream

Pixabay

“When I was younger, I always used to sleep in my brother’s room. He had a couch in there, and we would just play video games until we would fall asleep.

One night, I was sleeping on his couch, and I woke up to see black silhouettes of men crowded around me, looking down at me and just swaying. I couldn’t move, couldn’t speak, and tears just streamed down my face. I couldn’t say how long I sat like that before I drifted back into slumber.

I woke the next morning and kind of just brushed it off as a bad dream. I started chatting with my brother, and he kinda looked at me and said, “Man, I had this weird dream last night. I dreamt that I woke up in the night, and there was a bunch of men just looking at you in your sleep, and I couldn’t move or tell or anything. It was really freaky…” I just kind of halted and looked at him like… Are you f*cking with me? I hadn’t told him about my dream at all before that..”

8. Late Grandfather Still Plays His Radio

Pixabay

“My grandfather passed away in 08. He was a big fan of opera music and would blare it in the morning if he and my grandmother ever had any grandkids sleeping over. It was a good wake-up alarm.

About a week or two after his funeral, I was lying on my bed when I began to hear a scraping noise. I looked in the direction the sound came from to see a clock radio on the top shelf of my desk turn to face me, sliding across the desk in my direction, and it started playing all by itself. The music it was playing was opera music.”

7. Visit From Little Sister's Ghost

Pixabay

“I was recently in a car crash in April that broke my jaw and had me in the hospital for a little over a week or so. This hospital was the same one that my younger sister who had cancer was treated in back in the early 2000s.

One night, around maybe 9 or 10, I was laying in the hospital bed trying to get to sleep with my mom already dozing off next to me. The way the room was set up, I was right next to the door to the hall (to my left with the bed in the center).

As I feel myself start to fall asleep, I see clear as day my little sister standing in the doorway laughing and giggling at me in a gorgeous sundress. “Come on, what are you doing?” she said. I laughed and shouted, “What?” in reply, not even thinking.

My mom jolted awake thinking I needed her and asked what I said. I looked back quickly, and the doorway was empty. It wasn’t until then I realized what happened and remembered she passed away in 2007.

More comforting than creepy, but I will never forget it.”

6. Dreams Really Do Come True

PIxabay

“When I was a child, I vividly remember having dreams where I was in a toy store or was playing with a toy I didn’t have, and if I gripped it really, really hard, I would wake up with the toy in real life.

My family was by no means poor, but very often, my toys were bought from garage sales. They had bought me a really cool He-Man action figure. For too long, he didn’t have a Skeletor to fight.

I begged and pleaded, and my family tried to find one at garage sales. No luck.

One night, I dream about playing with a Skeletor at the toy store. I wanted it SO D*MN BAD. At some point, I realized I was dreaming. I didn’t want to stop playing with it. So I gripped it hard in my hands making sure that when I woke up, I would have it. And I did.

I was stoked. My family asked me where I had gotten the toy, knowing that I wanted one. When I told them I took it from a dream, they seemed pretty amused. In retrospect, they likely bought it for me and slipped it to me in my sleep. If that was the case, they did this a few more times.

Another time, I had taken a Power Ranger from my dream, and then a GI Joe car. Hell of a power to have as a kid.”

5. Ghosts On The Stairs And Shot In The Attic

Pixabay

“I worked in a mansion-turned-office building for a few years. The place was reputed to be haunted. Meh, I had sh*t to do.

One night, working late, I heard the front door of the building open and someone come up the stairs. Except the “coming up the stairs” part never stopped. It was like an army of heavy-steppers marching continuously. My office door opened right near the top of the stairs. I didn’t dare open the door…scared sh*tless, I actually called the cops.

Cops ultimately went into the attic to see if anyone was up there. A single shot was fired, and two cops came running down the stairs. They wouldn’t tell me what they saw or what happened. They just told me to go home for the night.”

4. A Man Burning A Shoe

Pixabay

“There is a real creepy path that leads back to my house (which can be avoided, but the alternative is way longer and as I am lazy…) which is completely pitch black and through the woods.

One night after coming home from work, I see a hooded figure a few feet away from me, doing something, looking at the floor. The figure takes one look at me and runs ahead up right into the path I have to take, nowhere to be seen.

As I walk towards what he was looking at, I see that he was trying to BURN A STILETTO SHOE! The creepiness set in, and I thought about calling the police, but what could I have said? “Mr. officer, I saw a guy burning a woman’s shoe”?

The worst thing was that he ran straight ahead to where I was walking, so I made d*mned sure that I had my keys in my hand, ready to take him on if he came at me in the night, but he didn’t. I was training to be a journalist (and I am one now) and checked the newspapers and made inquiries afterward but nothing… but sure creeped me out ever since.”

3. Seeing A Family Of Ghosts

Pixabay

On the bright side, at least they’re still together in spirit form.

“So when I was about 7, maybe younger, I went to my mom’s best friend’s house with my mom in another city. It was just me, my mom and her friend and nobody else in the house.

Except, when I was there, I saw a family which consisted of a mother, a teenage boy, two younger girls that looked really burnt just walking around the house together without taking their eyes off me.

At one point, they even told me to go with them. I didn’t think anything of it at the point because I assumed they were house guests, but many years later when I told my mom, she mentioned it to her best friend. Her best friend told her they had to move out of that house because they had many haunting experiences such as finding all her new baby’s toys out in the middle of the night after she tidied it, things moved around, and blankets and pillows on the floor as if people slept there. She asked her husband thinking maybe he did it, but he was just as scared as her, so they moved out.”

2. Mysterious Full Glass On The Floor

Pixabay

“Found a full-to-the-brim, giant, plastic tumbler of water in the middle of my kitchen floor at 3 am.

It was so full, it had that little surface tension rise above the glass’ lip.

Definitely wasn’t there when I went to bed. It was a few feet from any counter or table. Could not possibly have fallen down that way. No water leaks from the ceiling. Smelt like water.

I was the only one home (my partner was in another country), doors were double-locked, and the alarm was on. I was sober, had just woken up, and went for a glass of water, coincidentally.

The dog refused to come into the kitchen until I put the glass in the sink. Very odd behavior for her.

Never happened again. Truly WTF.”

1. His Last Smile

Pixabay

“A few years ago when my grandpa was really sick, me and my family were around his bed all saying our last words to him, things were going normal, as we were all crying and saying goodbye. A little later, his breaths were getting less and less frequent and we knew he was about to go. But on his last breath, his eyes opened up really wide, he smiled, looking the happiest he had in years, and then he was just gone. To this day, I still can’t imagine what he felt/saw.”

Many of these stories may seem made up, but these storytellers will swear by their experiences. It's just crazy to think that the Universe has the power to break its own rules and present odd situations to us that we can't seem to make sense of.
