I Was Going To Throw Out My Gross Yellow-Stained Pillows, Until I Learned This Brilliant Trick!

It’s okay to admit it… we’ve all had yellow-stained bed sheets and pillows. It’s very normal but yes, it does look very gross. These embarassingly ugly yellow stains come from our sweat and our body’s natural oils so it can be difficult to prevent this from happening. You can do your best to stay clean and shower before going to bed but the reality is that your body will continue to sweat and release those oils while you’re asleep.

When it comes to regular sheets, it’s fairly straight-forward: we can usually launder them with our favourite whitening solution and that usually does the trick. But what about our pillows? It’s recommended that they’re washed at least twice a year, but how are you supposed to wash those?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a wonderful cleaning trick from One Good Thing! And trust me, you’ll want to wash those pillows because it turns out that at least 16 species of fungi live in the average pillow… yikes!

To get your pillows all cleaned up, you’ll need to fill up your washing machine about a third full of very hot water, then add a cup of whitening solution, a cup of laundry detergent, a cup of  chlorine bleach (assuming we’re washing white pillows!), and half a cup of Borax. Let the mixture dissolve before putting in your pillows, and then add more hot water before running the washer with two rinse cycles.

Check out the full details in the video below, including drying instructions for the different types of pillows. Let us know if you give it a try!
