91-Year-Old Mailman Is Retiring With A 69-Year Perfect Record

Over the years, I’ve held down more than a few jobs. From humble beginnings as a teenager working in retail and as a babysitter to working multiple side jobs as a student to forging a career in adulthood. Through it all, I’ve always maintained a solid work ethic that shows through my punctuality, willingness to learn and take direction, passion to improve, and ambition and drive to apply myself.

But, I’m not perfect. I’ve had to call in sick and show up late because I forgot my keys and had to go back and get them! I’ve had tires blow out on the side of the highway, lost wallets and few other reasons that have caused me to be late, sidetracked or unable to show up to work. Haven’t we all?

From Richfield, Utah, USA, 91-year-old Jack Lund started his career as a mailman in 1949 and has been working for the same office for eight decades. He is now retiring but it’s pretty commendable to have a career that long—and to be with the same company no less! However, what’s really staggering is how Jack has a 69-year perfect record.

Jack never tripped up or failed to deliver mail and packages for just under seven decades in his eight-decade career. While he may have missed the mark early on, it’s pretty remarkable what he’s accomplished. Even in the face of severe weather, or his vehicle breaking down, or a family crisis and many of the other challenges that could have arisen, Jack always showed up to get the job done. He’s been working there for such a steady amount of time, that every employee who has ever worked at the same post office has worked with Jack at one point or another. Jack’s coworkers agree that he is very reliable, as well as honest and full of integrity. Plus, he’s always smiling.

To honor a man who honors a job well done, a ceremony was held for Jack along with friends, family and colleagues, all cheering him on for his brilliant commitment to making sure the mail gets to where it needs to go. He was given a US flag, a special framed postal artwork and a letter of thanks and commendation for seeing the job straight to the end, and with a smile!
