My situation was unlike anything here/above. My husband and I were signed up for a world cruise that was to last 4 months from January to May. I had a friend from my Church; a single guy who needed a place to stay since he lived with his Mom who had recently passed away leaving him to crash with his cousins. "Dan" agreed to house sit for us and I paid him $2k to take care of our two cats and the house. COVID19 raised its ugly head and our cruise ended early and we returned home March 1 and let "Dan" stay til May or as soon as he found another place, since that was the deal. I have 3 guardian type dogs who had been elsewhere, and when they came home, my youngest took a disliking to Dan. Dan admitted he had struck her since she had bitten him with her puppy teeth. "DON'T HIT MT DOGS!" I had a friend over while my husband went on a fishing trip. Dan acted very different when my husband was out of the house BTW. My friend brought her two dogs (same breed as mine; suspicious ) and her male dog took a dislike to Dan, growling, showing teeth. Dan taunted the dog; "Go ahead and bite me dog!" When hubby returned from fishing I told him Dan had to go and don't put it on me to confront him. We said "Dan, it's time" and he was gone the next day.
I went to a ritzy private school that cost more than my UC college. Some kids had their lunches catered and delivered every day, but my Mom made my meager sandwich, apple and cookies in a brown bag. WE did not have locked lockers and some unidentified bully kept snagging my lunch, so I made a "tuna" sandwich using cat food instead of human grade tuna. Jalapenos for a little tang. Last time I lost a sandwich.
My Mom was in a very expensive place when she deteriorated into dementia. We adult kids visited her often and found the staff was stealing her jewelry, clothes, etc and when I was there visiting I caught the theft almost in the act. I threatened to call the police and voila! The purse full of credit cards reappeared. My mother was so difficult the made us hire two independent caregivers to bathe her. We tried to get her to come live with one of us but NO WAY! she hated my dogs; didn't want to live in Denver (with my brother) and Chico and Sacramento (my sister and my home towns) were too hot. She would have saved over a million $$$ that we ended up inheriting.
