She was specifically told not to mow the lawn. Arranging sticks by size takes time and would be obvious as a project. “Helping” isn’t helping when you are doing what you’ve been asked not to do. You must be the overbearing person.

You are using your experience to judge a totally different situation. I’m truly sorry that no one has ever celebrated you, but the OP has lived another experience. It is unacceptable for his inlaws to make plans without checking with him, as well as his wife for accepting without checking. Most jobs only give so much time off yearly.
Read it again. OP stated she wasn’t upset about the food choice. She is upset that her mom told her child to keep a secret from her, multiple times.
