Remakes have become a huge trend in today’s era, in the entertainment industry. We’re not sure if it’s with the idea of maximizing on something that did so well in the past, or if directors are really passionate about recreating epic cinema, and seeing how a little bit of experimentation will fair with the audience. Whatever it may be, remakes of old classics sometimes don’t go as well as expected.
And we really hope that this isn’t the case with the old school classic “Dirty Dancing”. The movie was an all-time hit amongst the audience back in the ’80s, but recent day directors are now trying to recreate the magic on screen. The star cast seems to be a mix of some unknown actors/actresses, and some of the biggest stars in the industry—Abigail Breslin plays Baby in the new version, and maybe she will do justice to this character given that she’s an Oscar-nominated actress.
Can these actors and actresses really do justice to all the beautiful (and not to mention, high) expectations set by the original star cast of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey? We think that it’s only about time that we find out.
But it doesn’t seem like the production is trying to compete with the original popularity of “Dirty Dancing”. The film-makers are saying that this TV-version of the movie is simply remade to pay “homage” to the original, but it will also show what happens with the characters after the summer romance, and will also touch on their parents’ relationship.
